DAYTON, Ohio — The [5] Golden Grizzlies' (13-42, 5-19 HL) 2026 season came to a close as Oakland fell to [1] Wright State (27-27, 17-7 HL), 11–5, on Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies scored four runs in the third inning, but the Raiders responded with an eight-run fourth inning to take control of the game.
Redshirt-sophomore
Lucas Day scored two runs and added two doubles in the game, showcasing his impact at the plate as grad senior
Carter Hain picked up two RBIs and a double. Redshirt-junior
Sam Griffith was back in the lineup and recorded two RBIs while drawing two walks, further aiding the scoring effort. On the mound, sophomore
Wyatt Ruppenthal pitched three innings, allowing one earned run and tossed a strikeout.
Oakland took an early lead in the second inning when Day doubled and scored on Griffith's single to right center. In the third inning, the Golden Grizzlies expanded their lead with a four-run outburst. Redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran singled and eventually scored on junior
Aidan Orr's groundout. Day and junior
Ben Clark also crossed the plate, driven in by Hain's double. Griffith added another insurance run with an RBI single, bringing Day home. The inning concluded with Oakland leading 5–2 after Wright State hit a two-run homer at the bottom half of the frame.
The Raiders responded decisively in the fourth inning. A series of singles and a triple contributed to eight runs, giving Wright State a commanding 10–5 lead.
Wright State added another run in the eighth inning on a double, extending their lead to 11–5 and ending the elimination game with that score.
Senior southpaw
Tanner Ware started on the mound for the last time in his Oakland career, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing five runs off of six hits, and recording a strikeout. Senior
Jaxson Easterlin, who took the loss, faced a difficult outing, surrendering four runs on three hits before sophomore
Andrew Landis contributed 2/3 of an inning of work with one strikeout. Junior
Ryan Donley provided a steady performance with one scoreless inning, yielding just one hit and striking out one as Ruppenthal closed the game with three innings.
