ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies have adjusted their upcoming schedule for the week and will now play a home doubleheader against Rochester Christian (RCU) on Friday, Feb. 27.
With their original trip to Delaware State now canceled, Oakland returns to the OU Grizz Dome for another round of home games.
The Golden Grizzlies are looking to stay perfect at home, currently holding a 4-0 record on their home turf after a pair of series sweeps against Michigan Dearborn and Lourdes.
After outscoring their opponents by a combined 22-8 margin, Oakland has been dominant in its early home games. The hot start has been fueled by balanced play on both sides of the field. Seven batters are hitting above .400 for the Golden Grizzlies, as
Alyssa Balcom,
Maggie Murphy,
Autumn Liebhauser, Kam Troyer,
Jessica Nelson,
Storm Kentros and
Taylor Carraway have helped make Oakland one of the most dangerous hitting lineups in the conference.
Oakland's starting pitching rotation has also been on point, posting a league-low 2.96 ERA, nearly two runs lower than the second-place team.
Kenna Bommarito,
Jessica Nelson and
Mary Newton all have ERAs under 3.00 with at least four appearances each.
Bommarito has recorded 11 strikeouts in each of her last two starts, while Nelson has struck out a combined 14 batters in her last two outings.
The Warriors enter the game with a 2-4 record after falling 13-1 to Olivet Nazarene (IL) in their last outing.
Through six games, RCU is batting .309 as a team, led by shortstop Jaya Forti, who is hitting .444 with a team-high five RBIs, eight hits and five runs scored. The Warriors' pitching staff has been their biggest challenge thus far, holding a 7.65 ERA and giving up eight or more runs in each of their four losses.
The doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, at the OU Grizz Dome, as Oakland aims to extend their winning streak to six games.
