Softball to Host Lourdes in Friday Doubleheader

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies return to action in the OU Grizz Dome on Friday, Feb. 20, for a doubleheader against Lourdes University. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m., with Game Two set for 1:30 p.m., as the Golden Grizzlies look to build momentum during the opening stretch of the 2026 season.

Oakland enters the matchup riding early-season confidence after a strong start in non-conference play. The Golden Grizzlies have showcased balance through both their lineup and pitching staff, highlighted by steady production at the plate and quality innings in the circle. In last week's pair of wins over the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Oakland demonstrated the ability to manufacture runs with timely hitting while also flashing extra-base power. Several hitters have posted multi-hit performances to begin the year, and the team has capitalized on aggressive baserunning and productive situational at-bats.

Oakland's early-season plate success has been led by Maggie Murphy and Kam Troyer, who are both hitting above .450, and have combined for 16 hits, 12 RBIs, three triples, and five doubles so far this season.

In the circle, Oakland's pitching staff has set the tone. The rotation has delivered multiple complete-game efforts early in the season, including shutout performances from Kenna Bommarito and Jessica Nelson, who combined for nearly 20 strikeouts in two games.

Lourdes comes into Rochester for their first action of the 2026 season. In 2025 Lourdes finished with a 10-23 (7-15 WHAC) record. The team batted .238 from the plate, and are led this season by junior Taylor Leggins, who led the team with a .388 batting average, .894 OPS, seven doubles, and 31 hits.

With first pitches set for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., fans can expect a full day of early-season softball as the Golden Grizzlies aim to defend their home turf and carry momentum deeper into the 2026 schedule.
