Baseball Heads to Southern Indiana for Four-Game Tilt

ROCHESTER, Mich. –  The Golden Grizzlies baseball team continues on another road trip for four games across three days in Evansville, Indiana for a series at Southern Indiana. First game is scheduled for tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET, while Friday is set for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m ET. The series finale is set for Saturday, Feb. 21 for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The team opened up its season in Texas at Lamar where it ended the three-game series, 1-2, going into extras in game three.

Game 1 (Friday, Feb. 13): Lamar 8, Oakland 2
Oakland struggled early, falling behind 6-0 in the eighth inning before Aidan Orr delivered a home run, tallying two RBIs. Redshirt-senior Jack Lux contributed with a perfect pinch-hit appearance, recording a hit in his only at-bat. On the mound, sophomore Brody Fahnestock struck out six batters over four innings, despite allowing four earned runs. Junior Ben Clark added a double and scored a run in his four plate appearances.

Game 2 (Saturday, Feb. 14): Lamar 9, Oakland 7
The center-fielder Orr continued a hot-streak, contributing with two hits and a double, while also stealing two bases as Oakland took an early 6-4 lead up to the 7th inning. Clark finished with two hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Senior Carter Hain recorded two hits and a double, adding an RBI and scoring a run as Sophomore Aidan Schuck went two-for-five on the day and picked up an RBI. Lamar seized control in the seventh inning, scoring four runs, before errors led to another run and the lead for the Cardinals.

Game 3 (Sunday, Feb. 15): Oakland 3, Lamar 2 (10 inn.)
The Golden Grizzlies secured their first victory of the season with an extra-innings win at Vincent-Beck Stadium. Day contributed significantly with a solo home run to drive in the first run as Senior Tanner Ware was effective on the mound, pitching four scoreless innings, only allowing five hits, and striking out five. Lux made his impact as a pinch hitter, delivering a double and recording an RBI in his sole plate appearance in the top of the 10th frame.

SCOUTING THE SCREAMING EAGLES
The USI Screaming Eagles split the opening weekend on the road in Bakersfield, California, versus Cal State Bakersfield. USI took game two, 7-6, and three, 14-8, while missing a chance to take game one, 8-7, with a runner thrown out at the plate, and game four, 11-10, stranding the bases loaded.

The Screaming Eagles had a hot start at the plate this year, batting a combined .329 (51-155) with 35 RBIs. The bullpen had a tough start with a 7.15 ERA through the first four games as the Screaming Eagles are predicted to place seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2026.
