YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Oakland University's Martyna Piechowicz took home the Singles Title at the second annual Horizon League Individual Championships on Sunday.

Hosted by Youngstown State, the event included all six programs from the Horizon League that participate in women's tennis. Over three days, players competed in a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw.

Coming into the weekend hoping to improve from last year's championship, Oakland delivered with 13 singles wins, three doubles wins, and three singles back draw wins – nearly quadrupling their results from 2024.

Piechowicz, along with freshman Oliwia Klimas, took control of the singles draw, defeating strong opponents. Piechowicz notched home key victories against ranked players Nadiia Konieva (Milwaukee: 6-4, 2-6, 6-4) and Hanna Telzynska (Youngstown State: 77-64, 6-2). Klimas defeated two ranked players herself: Ella Franz (6-2, 6-1) from Cleveland State and Yoana Dubova (77-61, 6-1) from Youngstown State.

With both reaching the finals, it was a battle of the Golden Grizzlies, ensuring the title would come home to Oakland. In the championship match, Piechowicz topped Klimas 6-2, 6-3 to claim the trophy.

Emilia Jarvinen and Nisa Bulut also reached the quarterfinals, giving Oakland a presence in every match at that stage. Edie Hammond and Tara Montreuil exited in the first round, but each claimed a win in the singles back draw.

In the doubles draw, Jarvinen and Hammond made a strong run to the semifinals before losing a close match to the doubles champions Line Greyling and Yeseniia Ovcharova (811-79) from Youngstown State.
