DETROIT – The Oakland University women's tennis team made its fourth appearance at the annual Wayne State Doubles Tournament on Oct. 24, posting an 8-8 combined record across four doubles teams against competitors from Wayne State, Grand Valley State, and Findlay.

Senior Edie Hammond and graduate student Martina Marušinová competed as Oakland's No. 1 doubles team. Sophomore Oliwia Klimas and junior Martyna Piechowicz formed the No. 2 team, while junior Nisa Bulut and senior Emilia Jarvinen competed at No. 3. Freshmen Alison Doka and Isabella Jaray were paired as the No. 4 team. Freshman Michelle Berkovich also competed in the tournament alongside Marlee Fleming from Findlay.

Oakland's No. 1 and No. 2 teams made deep runs, with both duos winning their first two matches. Hammond and Marušinová defeated Findlay's No. 4 team, 8-4, before earning an 8-6 victory over Grand Valley State's No. 2 team. Klimas and Piechowicz defeated Findlay's No. 3 team, 8-6, and Findlay's No. 1 team, 8-3.

Both Oakland teams eventually fell to Grand Valley State's No. 1 team, which went on to win the tournament. Hammond and Marušinová dropped an 8-6 decision in the semifinals, while Klimas and Piechowicz fell by the same score in the finals to finish as runners-up.

Bulut and Jarvinen fell to Wayne State's No. 2 team, 8-5, in the opening round but rebounded with consecutive backdraw victories. The duo defeated teammate Berkovich and her Findlay partner, 8-3, before cruising past Findlay's No. 4 team, 8-0. Bulut and Jarvinen pushed the Backdraw West final to extra points, but ultimately fell to Findlay's No. 3 team, 9-7.

Competing in the Wayne State Doubles Tournament for the first time, Berkovich, Doka and Jaray each recorded one doubles victory.
