Baseball Heads to Youngstown to take on Penguins

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond this weekend for their final road series of the season as they take on the Youngstown State (YSU) Penguins.

After a hot streak, winning four of six games from Apr. 21 to Apr. 27, Oakland suffered a series loss to Purdue Fort Wayne last time out.

The Golden Grizzlies (7-17 HL) remain in last place in the Horizon League, but with a series win they could jump up as high as fourth place heading into the last weekend of the regular season.

The matchup between the Penguins and Golden Grizzlies will feature some of the best individual hitters in the conference. For Oakland, John Lauinger (.350 BA) and Taylor Tomlin (.333 BA) have lit up the plate all season. Lauinger is currently on an eight game hitting streak, batting .483 (15-for-31) over the stretch. For the Penguins, Kyle Fossum (.398 BA) ranks first in hits (70) and home runs (19).

In their previous meetings this season Oakland was able to take one victory out of three games, winning the series finale 15-5 in seven innings.

Throughout history, Oakland and YSU are tied with 29 wins each.

The Penguins (9-15 HL) have lost four of their last five games, suffering a sweep to Wright State in their most recent series. In those four games they have given up a total of 58 runs, skyrocketing their team ERA to a league-worst 9.66.

On the other side, Oakland has a .264 batting average and the third best team ERA (7.52) in the conference.

The two squads battling for postseason position will face off beginning on May 9 at 11 a.m.
