Softball Celebrates Senior Day as they Host Season Finale Series Against Vikings

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies prepare for their final series of the season, hosting Cleveland State (CSU) at the Oakland Softball Field.

Oakland is looking to build off their last series, where despite a two to one series loss they scored in double-digits for just the second time this season in game two, bringing across ten runs in a five inning shutout win.

This series is a must win for Oakland as they look to save their postseason hopes. To earn the last Horizon League Championship spot, the sixth seed, Oakland would need at least two wins against the Vikings, and losses from Green Bay and Detroit Mercy to help their chances.

This series will be the first meeting between Oakland and Cleveland State since a marathon game in the 2024 Horizon League Championship, where the Vikings outlasted the Golden Grizzlies 1-2 in 12 innings, which tied the league record for second longest Softball Championship game, and was the longest since a pair of 12 inning games in 2007.

In the regular season, Oakland has won three of the last four head-to-head matchups with CSU.

With just one win in the series, the Vikings will clinch the one seed for the postseason. A successful season for CSU has been anchored by their pitching. They have a league-best 3.39 team ERA and 266 strikeouts.

Pitchers Melissa Holzopfel and Katie McDonald are a dynamic one, two punch for the Vikings, both ranking in the top three in ERA.

They'll be matching up against Oakland's trio of .300 hitters in Kam Troyer (.344), Madi Herrington (.330), and Brooklyn Plitz (.306).
