Softball Looks to Continue Winning Streak as they Take On Titans and Mastodons

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies return to action for the first time in nearly a week as they prepare for a big week of conference play as they travel to Detroit Mercy for a midweek rivalry showdown before hosting Purdue Fort Wayne (PFW) for a weekend series.

Oakland's most recent series was a doubleheader against Cleary, which the Golden Grizzlies swept as they outscored the Cougars 15-3 in the pair of games.

The bats of the Golden Grizzlies have heated up over what is now a three-game win streak. Over the stretch they have scored 26 runs and have batted .404 as a team.

SCOUTING THE TITANS

The Golden Grizzlies and Titans will face-off as their rivalry continues to flourish on the diamond. The series has been one-sided as of late, with Oakland winning eight of the last nine meetings, including an 8-0 win in April of last year.

Along with the record of dominance, the Golden Grizzlies have scored seven or more runs in seven of the last eight meetings against the Titans. Oakland has not lost at Buysse Park since 2019, looking to keep that streak alive as well.

The Titans (5-22, 2-7 HL) have struggled mightily the first half of the season, ranking last in the conference in ERA (7.21) and batting average (.222) as a team.

The series between cross-town rivals will start with a single game on Tuesday, Apr. 8 at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader to close it out on Wednesday, Apr. 9 beginning at 12 p.m.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS

Oakland will close out the week with a big matchup against the third place Mastodons.

Purdue Fort Wayne (10-17, 6-3) has won four of their last five games coming into the week, winning two out of three against Youngstown State in their last series.

The Mastodons excel at the plate, trailing only one squad as they hold the second best batting average in the Horizon League (.285). Leading them in their hitting effort is Grace Hollopeter, who owns the fifth highest batting average (.380) in the conference.

Oakland is looking to complete their second straight sweep of PFW, after doing so in last season's series.

Similar to their record against the Titans, the Golden Grizzlies have emerged victorious in most of their recent games against the Mastodons, winning 12 of the last 13 meetings.

The series will begin with a game on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 3 p.m., and end with a doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 13 beginning at 12 p.m.
