ROCHESTER, Mich. – Women's Tennis is set to play Milwaukee in the quarterfinals match of the Horizon League Championship. The Golden Grizzlies won in their showdown earlier this season.
The third seeded Golden Grizzlies will take on the sixth seeded Milwaukee Panthers Friday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center on the University of Michigan campus.
The Golden Grizzlies head into the Horizon League tournament following an impressive season in the Horizon League, finishing third overall with a 4-2 record. Throughout the season, numerous Golden Grizzlies have been named Horizon League Singles and Doubles Athletes of the Week, including
Emilia Jarvinen, Warisara Lee,
Martyna Piechowicz,
Tara Montreuil, and
Josie Ward.
Throughout this season,
Emilia Jarvinen has gone 3-3 at the No. 1 singles spot in conference play. At the No. 2 spot,
Nisa Bulut has been dominant, going undefeated (6-0) against Horizon League opponents.
Martyna Piechowicz finished league play 4-2 at the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles spots.
Earlier this year, the Golden Grizzlies faced off against the Milwaukee Panthers, where the squad won 4-3. The Golden Grizzlies claimed the doubles point courtesy of Piechowicz and Montreuil winning 7-5 at the No. 2 doubles spot. The squad went on to win the No. 2, 5, and 6 spots to clinch the match. The Golden Grizzlies look to repeat their win against the Panthers in the quarterfinals match Friday at 11:00 a.m..
