Nigh Homers as Baseball Completes Comeback over Rockets

Box Score TOLEDO, Oh. - The Golden Grizzlies completed the comeback as they snagged a much-needed 8-7 win over the Rockets to start the week.

Oakland originally found themselves down, trailing 3-0 after the second inning behind homers from Troy Sudbrook and Josh Cote in the first two innings. A Taylor Tomlin RBI single in the third and a Jack Lux sacrifice fly in the fourth would pull Oakland closer, trailing 2-3.

After another Rockets home run in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead, Oakland buckled down, scoring five unanswered runs. It would start with Lux coming through once again in the sixth with a RBI single, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Tomlin.

As Oakland trailed by just one run headed into the seventh, Brandon Nigh would smash his second home run of the season over the center field wall, tying the game at five. Sam Griffith would snatch the lead for the Golden Grizzlies with a clutch two RBI single in the seventh as well, swaying the momentum firmly to the Oakland side.

Tomlin and Trent Rice would both bring around runs with RBI singles in the top of the ninth, expanding the lead to 9-6.

Toledo would score one more run in the bottom half of the ninth, but a big time 4-6-3 double play helped Oakland put the Rockets behind the eight ball, as Ryan Donley struck out the final batter to give Oakland the win and break a four-game losing streak.

Rice broke out of what was a slump at the plate for a team-high three hits (3-for-5, RBI) along with a pair of stolen bases. Tomlin (2-for-5, 3 RBI) and Nigh (2-for-3, HR) also stood out for Oakland as they secured the win.

The Golden Grizzlies have a quick turnaround, returning home for a single game against Central Michigan on Tuesday, Apr. 22 at 3 p.m.
