Softball Prepares For Pair of Non-Conference Doubleheaders Against Cougars and Cardinals

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies look to keep themselves in the win column this week as they take a break from conference play in a pair of doubleheaders, hosting Cleary and visiting Louisville this week.

Oakland is coming off an impressive series win over Green Bay, where they played some of their most well-rounded ball of the season. The series saw Madi Herrington continue a stellar season, going 5-for-11 with four RBI. She is now .329, the highest on Oakland, while also leading the team in OPS (.951), hits (23), triples (2), and RBI (15). Kayla Turmell also hit her first career walk-off to secure a victory, and pitcher Kenna Bommarito threw a sensational 14 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched over the series as she emerges as a top-tier pitching talent.

THURSDAY, APR. 3 vs CLEARY | 2 & 4:30 PM (DH)

The Golden Grizzlies will begin their week with a doubleheader against the Cougars on Thursday.

It is slated to be the first ever matchup between the two teams, in what is sure to become a regular occurrence in the future.

The Cougars have started the season 8-14, most recently splitting a pair of games to Northwestern Ohio on Mar. 30.

Cleary has struggled on the road this season, holding a 2-7 record away from their home field, proving for what could be a tough outing against a team in Oakland that just played very well against Green Bay at home, scoring their most runs in a game (11) in the series finale.

Senior Mia Rzepka has been the lead batter for the Cougars, hitting a team-best .333, for a lineup that has scored in double-digits three times so far this season.

It will be a solid test for the Oakland defense that ranks fourth in the Horizon League in fielding percentage (.953)

SATURDAY, APR. 5 @ LOUISVILLE | 1 & 3:30 PM (DH)

To close out the week Oakland will face the Cardinals, who despite a 20-15 start to the season, are riding a three-game losing streak coming into the week after a series sweep to Duke.

Prior to the week, Louisville has lost five of their last six games, and are struggling as they play a tough schedule to start the season.

They are anchored offensively by Easton Lotus and Ally Alexander, who both are hitting above .400 on the season and combining for 81 hits and 27 RBI.

The Golden Grizzlies will be looking for their first ever win over the Cardinals, having met twice before in 2023, where Louisville took both games.
