ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies look to snap its losing streak as it ends its 22-game road trip and hosts Northern Kentucky this weekend following a trip to East Lansing.
The Golden Grizzlies (3-18, 0-3 HL) face the Michigan State Spartans tomorrow (March 19), with first pitch at 4:05 p.m. ET live on Big Ten+, on the road for its last road game before home play. Oakland then returns to the Oakland Baseball Field for the first time in the 2025 season with a three-game series (March 21-23) against Northern Kentucky. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
John Lauinger leads the team with 25 hits, hitting at a .333 clip, as
Matthew McGann leads the team with 14 RBI off 15 hits. Both
Lucas Day and
Carter Hain lead the team with a pair of home runs, as
Brandon Nigh paces the team with eight doubles. On the mound,

Brandon Nigh recorded two hits and two RBI, while starter
Ethan Glassman led Oakland's pitching effort with three strikeouts. Louisville took control with a seven-run sixth inning, led by Jake Munroe's four-hit, four-RBI performance, sealing the win with two more runs in the eighth.
Game 2 (Friday, March 14) DH Game 1: Oakland 2, Wright State 3
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies battled hard but fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Wright State.
Hunter Pidek pitched six strong innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four, but Wright State broke through with a two-run homer in the sixth. Oakland tied the game in the ninth with clutch hits from
Aidan Schuck and
Taylor Tomlin, but Wright State sealed the win with a walk-off home run.
Game 3 (Friday, March 14) DH Game 2: Oakland 3, Wright State 13 (8 Inn.)
The Golden Grizzlies fell, 13-3, to Wright State, struggling to overcome an early four-run deficit in the final game of the doubleheader. Oakland showed life in the seventh with RBI hits from
Sam Griffith and
Trent Rice, cutting the deficit to 9-3. However, Wright State responded with a four-run eighth inning, enforcing the run rule and sealing the win.
Game 4 (Sunday, March 16): Oakland 10, Wright State 17
Despite a strong offensive effort, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies fell, 17-10, to Wright State in the series finale. Wright State took control early with a nine-run first inning, but Oakland fought back with a
Carter Hain two-run homer in the fifth and a four-run sixth to close the gap. However, Wright State tacked on late insurance runs, and despite a final push from Oakland, the comeback fell short.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans (13-6, 1-2 Big Ten) are coming off two-straight losses as it opened up conference play at Iowa and won game one in extras, but was outscored in a doubleheader, 17-3. Oakland is one of two Horizon League teams the Spartans will face this season as it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne in April. Michigan State has played just one game on its home diamond this season and fell, 11-7, to the University of Michigan.
Overall, the Golden Grizzlies are 3-23 against the Spartans as all but one game have been in East Lansing. The series dates back to 2000 as Oakland secured its third overall win last season, 11-7, for its first win since 2016.

Northern Kentucky (12-6, 3-0 HL) enter the week on a six-game win streak as it's set to face Louisville today before its weekend series. The Norse took care of business against Purdue Fort Wayne at home and outscored the Mastodons, 30-8, as the team is 2-5 on the road this season.
The Golden Grizzlies are 23-27 against the Norse and ride a two-game win streak with a 11-9 home record. Last April, the game headed into extra innings as
John Lauinger took care of business in extras with a sacrifice fly as Nigh led the team with three hits. In its last 10 games, the teams are even at 5-5.
Gabe Miranda leads the team with a .444 batting average as he paces the team with 32 hits off six doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Miranda also leads the team with 33 RBI as Brennan Rowe has drawn the most walks with 13. On the mound, Kaden Echeman leads the pitching rotation with a 3.15 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched and has allowed just 14 hits.
