Golden Grizzlies Fall in Milwaukee, 71-66; Mukeba Tallies Career Rebound No. 500

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - A trio of Golden Grizzlies had double-digit point nights but ultimately fell, 71-66, to the Milwaukee Panthers tonight inside the UWM Panther Arena.

The Golden Grizzlies (13-17, 10-9 HL) were led by Jayson Woodrich who paced the team with 14 points, as Allen Mukeba led the team off the glass with nine rebounds. Mukeba also tallied career rebound number 500 in the game.

The Panthers (20-10, 13-6 HL) also had a trio of players in double-digits for scoring as AJ McKee led with 15.

Milwaukee scored the games first six points before Isaiah Jones got Oakland on the board with a two. Milwaukee answered, but Woodrich kept with the hot hand from the game previous and sank one from downtown. The teams continued to trade points early, although the Panthers saw its lead get to seven early, but back-to-back threes, followed by a DQ Cole layup, gave the Golden Grizzlies its first lead, 15-14, with 12:56 to go.

Cole followed it up with another make, but the Panthers regained its lead shortly, that was until Nassim Mashhours second three of the game dropped to go up two. The lead went up to four, but a 5-0 run gave the score advantage to the Panthers with 7:56 to go in the half. The game shifted in favor of Oakland though as after it gave up the lead, it proceeded on an 11-2 over the next 2:08, pushing the score to 33-25 with 5:24 to go, capped off by a Mukeba and-one.

The Panthers clawed back with a 17-0 run as the Golden Grizzlies went scoreless in the final 5:24 of play to trail heading into the locker room, 42-33.

With 20 rebounds, the Panthers held the edge off the glass with four more than the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland shot better from the field, at a .520 clip (13-of-25) compared to Milwaukee's .441 mark (15-of-34). After 20, Oakland sank five from range, compared to Milwaukee's two, as 10 of Milwaukee's points were from the charity stripe.

The Panthers opened the half up with eight-straight points to build its lead to 16, but a 9-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Woodrich, made it 50-43 at the 16:01 mark. Both teams were scoreless for nearly three minutes before the Panthers broke through with a three. Milwaukee hung around with a 10-point lead, but a Cole three at the 8:59 mark cut the teams deficit to eight.

The deficit minimized to five, at 62-57, with 7:32 to go, but the Panthers quickly built it back to nine. Oakland didn't count itself out though and proceeded on a 7-0 run over the next 1:41 as a Buru Naivalurua slam dunk made it a two-point game with 4:19 to go. The dunk was the last points Oakland scored for the next 3:37 of time as it was down 69-64 before Naivalurua ended the drought to make it a one-possession game with :42 seconds to go.

Down three, Oakland had one final possession to even things up, however, its shot fell short as Oakland fell, 71-66.

Oakland was outrebounded, 39-33, as the Golden Grizzlies finished the game shooting better from the field than the Panthers, .434-.379. Oakland held Milwaukee to three threes, compared to Oakland's nine, but the Panthers made 24 shots from the charity stripe.
