Women’s Tennis Falls Short on the Road

Box Score NIAGARA FALLS, NY – In their lone match of the weekend, the Golden Grizzlies fall short in an extremely close match against the Niagara Eagles. 

The Golden Grizzlies got off to a great start, winning the doubles point with wins from Edie Hammond and Martyna Piechowicz taking the No. 1 doubles win (6-3) and Emilia Jarvinen and Josie Ward winning at the No. 2 spot, 6-2. 

In singles play, Emilia Jarvinen secured the win in the No. 1 spot, beating Niagara's Gabriela Melo, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-2. Josie Ward secured a dominant win at the No. 3 spot, winning 6-3, 6-0. The Golden Grizzlies fought hard at the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots but came just shy of the win. Martyna Piechowicz and Ida Hultqvist both went to a deciding set in their single match-ups, losing close battles to the Eagles. 

Following this close match, the Golden Grizzlies head back to Rochester. Their next match will be Tuesday as they travel to California to face off against the University of Redlands and UC Irvine.
