INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Golden Grizzlies ended its two-game skid with a double-digit win against the Jaguars, 82-67, tonight inside The Jungle.
The Golden Grizzlies (11-15, 8-7 HL) were led by
Nassim Mashhour who scored a career-high 18 points off 6-of-10 shooting and five made threes.
Buru Naivalurua tallied a double-double as he led the team with 10 rebounds, along with his 13 points.
The Jaguars (8-19, 4-12 HL) saw Jarvis Walker score 26 points as DeSean Goode led the team with nine rebounds.
IU Indy got the game started with five-straight points, but
Jayson Woodrich drilled a three to set the tone for Oakland's offense for the first half. The Jaguars built its lead back to five, but
DQ Cole hit from downtown to cut into the deficit. Oakland eventually found itself down, 11-6, but a layup and another Woodrich three knotted the game up at 11 with 16:06 to go.
The Jaguars answered with back-to-back threes, but Mashhour answered with his first three of the night. Play continued as Oakland was back by a point as
Malcolm Christie got in on the action with one from range for the Golden Grizzlies first lead, 21-19, with 11:07 to go. The Jaguars regained the lead for a brief moment, but Cole drilled a stepback three , after an
Allen Mukeba layup, to go ahead.
Mashhour then followed things up with three-straight from beyond the arc as Oakland went up by double-digits with 6:33 to go in the first half. The Jaguars snuck back into the game as Oakland saw its lead dwindle to four before a 4-0 run ended the half with the Golden Grizzlies ahead, 42-34.
At the break, Oakland was 14-of-26 (.538) from the field with nine coming from range, as the Jaguars were one behind with eight threes, shooting 11-of-25 (.440) from the floor. Off the glass, Oakland held the edge by one, 15-14, with four more defensive boards than the Jaguars.
Mashhour kept the ball rolling in the second half with the first points of it, followed by two from Mukeba. The Jaguars, once again, made it close at 46-42 with 16:45 to play, but a Mashhour free throw ended a 2:39 scoring drought for Oakland. Masshour had the hot hand as he hit another three as Oakland didn't look back from there.
The Jaguars put up a fight, as it brought it down to single digits on a few occasions, putting the score at 58-49 with 10:21 to go, but
Isaiah Jones and Christie hit back-to-back from range to go up 13. The Jaguars kept up, however, as it made it an eight-point game with 5:22 to go, but back-to-back slams from Mukeba and Naivalurua put the Golden Grizzlies up by 12. The team cruised from there as Cole hit one final shot from the team as Oakland ended its two-game skid with a win, 82-67.Â
After 40, the Golden Grizzlies shot 29-of-53 (.547) from the field with 12 makes from range and kept the Jaguars at a .338 clip (22-of-65) from the field with 12 threes as well. Oakland won the battle off the glass, 38-35, as it came away with 13 more defensive rebounds.
