ROCHESTER, Mich. — Oakland took care of Alma College, 111-77, in exhibition on Wednesday at the OU Credit Union O'rena. Oakland took control early, leading 59-34 at halftime, and maintained their momentum throughout. The home team capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 21 points, while also outpacing the Scots in fast-break opportunities with 24 points. Oakland's bench contributed significantly, adding 40 points to the total.
"We went deep in the bench tonight." said head coach
Greg Kampe. "We played at great pace, got the ball up and down the floor — it looked like 10-15 years ago. It was really fun to watch with a lot of acrobatic plays, I think people saw how good those point guards are and that we can really shoot it."
Redshirt-freshman
Warren Marshall IV led the team with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while adding five rebounds. Junior
Isaac Garrett posted a perfect shooting performance with 18 points on 7-for-7 from the field and recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds, alongside three blocks. Senior
Brody Robinson contributed 13 points and distributed a team-high seven assists, also collecting four steals. Sophomore
Nassim Mashhour added 12 points and two steals, bolstering the defensive effort.
Oakland began the first half with a strong offensive surge, quickly establishing a 10-0 lead within the first two minutes. Mashhour was instrumental, scoring a layup and a three-pointer, assisted by Garrett. Oakland's defense was equally impactful, with Robinson collecting two early steals to disrupt the Scots' offense.
The home team maintained their momentum throughout the half, capitalizing on the Scots' turnovers and extending their lead. Garrett contributed significantly, both defensively with two blocks and offensively with multiple layups. As the half concluded, Oakland held a commanding 59-34 lead over the Scots, showcasing a well-rounded team effort both in the paint and beyond the arc.
Oakland maintained a commanding presence throughout the second half, capitalizing on quick transitions and effective perimeter shooting. Brett White's back-to-back 3-pointers early in the half highlighted Oakland's offensive prowess, extending their lead and keeping the Scots at bay. Robinson's defensive contributions, including key steals, further bolstered their momentum, while Marshall and freshman
MJ Yeager added crucial 3-pointers to Oakland's tally.
Despite the Scots' efforts to close the gap, including a series of baskets by Korbin Heitzman, Oakland's dominance in fast breaks and bench points was evident. The half concluded with Oakland outscoring the Scots 52-43, securing a decisive 111-77 victory as the final buzzer sounded.
