Golden Grizzlies Hit The Road to Face the Phoenix

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies are back on the road after a pair of consecutive home series as they travel to Green Bay to take on the Phoenix.

Oakland has been on a roll in league play, winning each of their first four series two games to one each time, combining for an 8-4 conference record. Last time on the diamond in a midweek series against Detroit Mercy, The Golden Grizzlies run-ruled the Titans for both of their series wins, winning 10-0 on Tuesday and 8-0 on Wednesday, with a 1-2 loss sandwiched in-between early Wednesday.

Sydney Campbell pitched in both the wins, earning a pair of shutouts as she dominated the series in the circle. Campbell's ERA is now down to 1.74, second lowest in the league just .03 behind Youngstown's Sophie Howell.

In both of their wins, Oakland continued to ramp up the pressure from the batter's box, steadily increasing their hitting marks as the season has progressed, now with six hitters batting over .250. After a blazing start to the season, Jen Krizka is still hitting an astronomical .410, while freshman rising star Brooklyn Plitz is swinging .349, good for eighth best in the league. Plitz is riding a four-game hitting streak, going 7-of-11 (.636) over the stretch. She now has five multi-hit games this season, three in the last four games. The freshman outfielder has found her sweet spot in the leadoff role, using her speed to get on base and always be a danger to score once on the base path.

While not batting the gouty numbers she was to start the season, Krizka is still one of Oakland's most reliable hitters. Batting in a team-high 21 runs. Mia Konyvka also stepped into the lineup and has proved to be a reliable DP for the team. In limited at-bats, Konyvka is a very efficient .429 from the plate, going 2-of-2 in Oakland's series finale win over Detroit.

The injury bug has bitten the Golden Grizzlies as the season hits its midpoint, with Reese Ruhlman and Allisa DiPrima both having missed time. Ruhlman sat out Oakland's final pair of games due to an ankle injury, but looks to be back in the Green Bay series, while DiPrima will be out for an extended amount of time with a hand injury.

Against their upcoming opponents, the Phoenix, The Golden Grizzlies have been dominant. Oakland has won five of the last six meetings, including a 10-2 win in their last meeting on May 11, 2023. Ruhlman led the way with three hits (3-of-3) with three RBI, along with Leah Bieniewicz who went 2-of-2 with two RBI as well.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX

Green Bay comes into the weekend with a 7-26 record, 3-9 in conference play. They are in the midst of a three game losing skid and have lost 11 of their last 12. With the second lowest team batting average in the Horizon League (.224), the Phoenix are hoping to catch their groove in the back half of this season.

They have only scored over one run twice in their last seven games, and despite a middle of the pack ERA as a team (5.73), the Phoenix have given up seven or more runs 17 times this season.

Junior outfielder Bella Herman leads the team in hitting with a .330 batting average, a top 15 average in the Horizon League, with the ninth most hits in the league (33) as well.. Senior catcher Samantha Saloun also ranks in the top ten in RBI in the league with 18. Both players are one of nine players in the conference with multiple triples on the season, both with two, joining Oakland's Ruhlman and Kamryn Troyer.

The three-game weekend series kicks-off with a double header, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 13 at King Park in Green Bay.
