Golden Grizzlies Close Out Regular Season with Senior Day Against Detroit Mercy

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies men's basketball team will honor its four seniors and look to clinch the Horizon League Regular Season Title outright Saturday against Detroit Mercy inside the OU Credit Union O'rena, with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
 
The Golden Grizzlies (19-11, 14-5 HL) have clinched at least a share of the league title, along with the one seed in the Horizon League Tournament, as it now plays to win the regular season title outright.
 
Oakland fell to Wright State, 96-75, Sunday (Feb. 25) as the Raiders exploded for 59 points in the second half to take the win. The Golden Grizzlies went into the locker room up, 38-37, but the Raiders shot 22-of-33 (.667) from the field and only missed two from range in the second half for a .778 clip.
 
Trey Townsend recorded his seventh career double-double on the year as he brought down 14 boards with 14 points. DQ Cole led the Golden Grizzlies with 18 points as he shot at a .500 clip with eight makes from the field.

The Golden Grizzlies stayed in the top 25 in this week's College Insider's Mid-Major Top 25 as it sits in the 24 spot as the only Horizon League team in the 25. Youngstown State received 23 votes, along with a sole vote for Green Bay, as Drake, who the Golden Grizzlies faced in the Cayman Islands Classic, ranks in the top-10. The Golden Grizzlies have been ranked two weeks in a row where it hadn't cracked the top-25 since Feb. 14, 2022.

Jack Gohlke ranks ninth in the Golden Grizzlies single season record book for most three-point field goals made with 104, as Travis Bader (2013-14) leads with 147. Ahead of him in eighth is Max Hooper with 105 (2015-16). He also sits fifth in three-point field goals per game with 3.5 and fifth in three-point field goal attempts with 289, as Travis Bader (2011-12) is ahead of him with 314.
 
Graduate student Blake Lampman is one game away from setting Oakland's all-time games played record as he's t-1st with Travis Bader (2010-14) and Will Hudson (2007-11) with 137. He's also in the fifth spot career wise in three-point field goals made with 267, as Brad Buddenborg (1998-02) is ahead in fourth with 286, while Lampman is fourth in attempts with 801, as Jason Rozycki (1998-02) is ahead with 819 attempts.
 
Trey Townsend has played and started in 123 games to date, which puts him third in the Oakland record book for most games started and is fourth overall in the books in minutes played with 4,264. In games started, Keith Benson (2007-11) is ahead of him in second with 126, while Corey Petros (2011-15) is in third in minutes played with 4516. The senior also finds himself seventh overall in offensive rebounds (266, Jalen Hayes (2013-18) is sixth with 280), fourth in defensive rebounds (562, Corey Petros (2011-15) in third with 664) and eighth in total rebounds (828, Derrick Nelson (2005-08, '09-10) in seventh with 849). He's also eighth in career double-doubles with 18, one behind John Henderson (1985-89) who has 19.

The Golden Grizzlies have four players with 1000 career NCAA points (Townsend - 1653, Gohlke - 1127, Watts - 1017, Lampman - 1003) which is t-6th in the NCAA for most active 1000 point scorers on the same team. St. John's (NY) leads with six, as Auburn, James Madison, TCU and Villanova have five. Watts and Lampman recorded their 1000th career-point in the same game.
 
DQ Cole amassed 1145 points in his career prior to joining the Golden Grizzlies, with Schoolcraft Community College and Henry Ford College, that both compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association level. Although NJCAA points don't count towards NCAA career point totals, Cole is nearing the 1500-point club as he currently sits with 1402.
 
SCOUTING THE TITANS
The Golden Grizzlies beat the Titans (1-29, 1-18 HL) in its first Horizon League game of the season back in November and took care of business, 65-50, two days after it took down a Power-6 Xavier team on the road.
 
In the Metro Series game, both teams battled back-and-forth as neither team built a strong lead in the opening half as the low-scoring effort saw the game at 28-27 at half. The Golden Grizzlies made halftime adjustments as it opened up the half on a 13-4 run and pushed its lead to 19 with 4:19 to play. The Golden Grizzlies locked down on defense in the second half as Oakland held Detroit Mercy to single-digit points for 16:30 of the half. The strong defensive effort propelled the Golden Grizzlies to the win and took home its rival, 65-50.
 
The Golden Grizzlies have dominated in its last 10 against the Titans as it has only lost two games in that span. Overall, Oakland holds a 19-10 record against Detroit Mercy with half of its losses coming in the first five meetings between the two. At home, Oakland has only lost three times as its only two losses since 2017 came inside the O'rena.
 
 Stone leads the Titans and the Horizon League with 20.5 points per game as he hits at a .417 clip from the floor and leads the team in threes made. Edoardo Del Cadia leads the team off the glass with 5.8 rebounds per game while Stone is right behind with 5.6 per game.
 
The Titans sole win of the season came against IUPUI, as the team averages 65.4 points per game and allows 80.3 points per game. The team shoots at a .417 clip from the floor and makes 5.6 per game from range. Off the glass, the Titans near the 30-rebound mark but have a -7.5 rebounding margin, allowing 37.2 rebounds per game.
 
Tip-off from the OU Credit Union O'rena is slated for 6:00 PM ET Saturday, March. 2.
