Men's Soccer Heads to Wright State in Pivotal Late Season Match

ROCHESTER, Mich. - After a huge at-home win against Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland hits the road to Dayton, Ohio to face the Wright State Raiders on Saturday at 3 pm.

Oakland has dominated against Wright State in recent years, holding a 10-5-3 record all-time against the Raiders.

Oakland, with a 4-6-2 record, 2-1-2 in league play, currently sit in fourth place in the Horizon League as the home stretch of the season approaches. This game against the Raiders could shake up the standings in a major way. With a win, the Golden Grizzlies could potentially leap as high as first place, but with a loss, the squad could fall as low as sixth place.

The squad is looking to string together a winning streak to end the regular season and move into a top seed as their run back to the Horizon League Championship enters full gear.

Since 2021, the Golden Grizzlies have been undefeated against the Raiders, winning three straight contests, and plan to extend the win streak again this Saturday. In last season's matchup between the two teams Oakland came out on top with a 5-0 which included a goal from defender, Malik Sylvester

Wright State, with a record of 5-6-2, 2-2-1 in Horizon League play, sit just one point behind Oakland in the standings. The Raiders have been on a downward slide as of late, losing their last three games, including a 1-3 loss to Robert Morris on Oct. 12.

Despite recent struggles, Wright State may be the most aggressive team on offense in the conference, leading the league in shots (161, shots on goal (83), and goals (29). Senior Forward Cole Werthmuller has a league-leading  35 shots and 8 goals as well.

A matchup between two of the top teams in the conference is sure to have playoff determining implications.
