Always challenging themselves outside of Horizon League play, Oakland's non-conference schedule features four teams who made the NCAA Tournament a year ago in the Illinois Fighting Illini, Drake Bulldogs, Xavier Musketeers and Michigan State Spartans, with the latter two both reaching the Sweet Sixteen, as well as the Toledo Rockets, who participated in last season's National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

Paired with the Toledo showdown, the Golden Grizzlies' other non-conference regular season home game will come against another Mid-American Conference (MAC) school, the Bowling Green Falcons, who are entering their first season under new head coach and Fowler, Michigan native Todd Simon.

Along with the rest of the Horizon League, Oakland previously announced their conference schedule on August 22 and the complete 2023-24 slate features 31 regular season contests.

A Second Team All-Horizon League honoree a year ago, the Golden Grizzlies return Oxford junior forward Trey Townsend in 2023-24, plus Naperville, Illinois forward Chris Conway, a fellow junior, and guards Rocket Watts and Blake Lampman, a senior and graduate student, respectively.
