No. 6 Golden Grizzlies Fall in Overtime of #HLMBB Semifinal Against No. 1 Robert Morris, 79-76

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Golden Grizzlies men's basketball season came to an end as it fell to the No. 1 Colonials, 79-76, in overtime tonight in the semifinal round of the #HLMBB Championship inside Corteva Coliseum.

The Golden Grizzlies (16-18, 11-9 HL) were led by Allen Mukeba who paced the team with 18 points (8-of-15) as Isaiah Jones led off the glass with seven boards. Malcolm Christie and DQ Cole both made a trio of threes on the night.

The Robert Morris Colonials (25-8, 15-5 HL) saw Kam Woods put up 23 points, as five players were in the double-digits for points.

The Colonials made a tail end of a pair of free throws, but DQ Cole opened up Oaklands scoring with one from deep. Robert Morris answered, but Cole came back minutes later to hit another from deep to go ahead, 7-4, at the 16:57 mark. The Colonials went on a drought as it went 2:35 without a point before a two ended its scoring troubles.

Oakland remained ahead with both teams trading buckets as Oakland led, 17-13, with 11:45 to play in the half. Over the next 1:20 of play, Robert Morris went on a quick 6-0 run to cut the deficit to one, but a Buru Naivalurua jumper put the lead back to three. The Colonials, however, answered with its third three in-a-row to tie the game at 19, followed up by a two, for its first lead since 1-0.

The Colonials went up five at the 8:53 mark, going on an 8-0 run, as Naivalurua put the run to a halt with a layup. The Golden Grizzlies defense locked down as it allowed no Colonial field goals in 3:26 time, making it a one-point game with 6:13 to go. Oakland regained its lead at the 3:37 mark as Cole kicked it out to Isaiah Jones who knocked down a three.

It was the Golden Grizzlies turn to go on a run, ignited by I. Jones' three, as Malcolm Christie drew a three-point foul and sank all three. Naivalurua followed it up with a roaring dunk to lead, 38-32, to :59 seconds to play in the half. Once again, the Golden Grizzlies defense came through, allowing no points through 3:47 of play, as the Colonials ended the half with a pair of free throws with Oakland up, 38-34.

At the break, Mukeba led the game with 13 points, shooting 6-of-10, as Oakland shot .583 (14-of-24) as a whole. The Colonials shot at a .393 (11-of-28) with five of its makes from range, as Oakland was 3-of-5 (.600) from range. Off the glass, Oakland held the edge as it brought down 16 boards compared to Robert Morris' 11.

Oakland picked up where it left off as Mukeba laid down a dunk, followed by a tip-in from Naivalurua to build the lead to eight. Jaylen Jones gave Oakland its first double-digit lead of the night, at 48-38, driving into the lane and laying one in. Robert Morris added two, but Christie was left open and drained a three, making it 51-40 with 15:46 to play.

A 7-0 run put the Colonial deficit to six as Oakland went 2:39 without a point before Mukeba made one from the line. Oakland remained slightly ahead as Jayson Woodrich made the next four points for the team, all from the charity stripe. Robert Morris was attacking, as it cut it to a three-point game, but Christie hit from downtown off an inbound to make it 61-55 with 9:00 to go.

Christie added yet another from range as Robert Morris was closing in, pushing the lead to seven with 7:42 to play. The Colonials took a one-point lead with 5:04 to play off a three, as it continued on its runs to make it 68-64 with 2:43 to go. Naivalurua ended the run from the charity stripe with two makes to cut the deficit to two.

Still down two, Oakland forced a missed shot as Cole hit from beyond the arc as the shot clock expired to regain a one-point lead with 1:58 to go. A steal from Cole set up another three for the Golden Grizzlies, this time coming off the hands of Woodrich to make it 72-68 with 1:29 to go. Robert Morris answered with a three of its own to make it a one-point game with 1:19 to go.

Oakland forced a miss with :32 seconds to play and was fouled, as Cole came up with two big free throws to go up three. Robert Morris drew a foul with :16 seconds to go, as it saw its shot go in, and made it from the charity stripe to tie things up. Oakland set itself up for one final possession, coming out of a timeout with the ball with :03.9 to play.

Oakland couldn't get a shot off as the game remained tied, 74-74, heading into extra time.

Robert Morris got started early with a three as Woodrich made a free throw to cut it to two. The Colonials got back on the board with a jumper, followed up by one free throw from Naivalurua. The game came down to the final minute, with Oakland down three, as it had the ball with :26 seconds to go.

A last second three wouldn't go, as Oakland fell in overtime, 79-76.

Overall, Oakland shot at a .463 (25-of-54) clip and brought down 31 rebounds, as Robert Morris shot .438 (28-of-64) from the floor with 34 rebounds. The Colonials made 10 threes compared to Oakland's eight.
