Phoenix and Golden Grizzlies to Ignite #HLSB Series

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball will host #HLSB opponent Green Bay in Rochester for the squad's second home series at the Oakland Softball Field.

The Golden Grizzlies' comeback, led by Allisa DiPrima's triple, came up short against Michigan State on Tuesday in a 3-2 loss as Oakland dropped to 7-11 on the season overall. Oakland is fifth in the Horizon League standings at 3-3 in conference play.

Jen Krizka now holds the top batting average on the squad with .357, putting the catcher sixth in the league just above her teammate, Allisa DiPrima, in seventh at .352. Krizka's slugging percentage, however, is above and beyond the best in the league at .667 while the Joliet, Illinois native is 36th in the entire country in walks per game with .71.

DiPrima is ninth in the nation in triples per game with .17 with three total to her credit through 18 games. Reese Ruhlman also has her name appear in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in the same category, appearing in a tie for 44th with .11 a game.

As a team, the Golden Grizzlies are sixth in the nation behind UC Santa Barbara, Boston U, Wichita State, Tulsa, and Northern Illinois in triples per game.

Ruhlman and Maci Brown follow Krizka and DiPrima in batting average with .300 each, respectively. In total Krizka leads the team with 11 runs batted in with the team's only two home runs of the season.

Sydney Campbell still holds the top spot in #HLSB's earned run average ranking with 1.68 with only 17 earned runs allowed through 283 at-bats. Campbell has also tossed 41 strikeouts and holds the team's best record of 6-4 while on the mound.

Mia Konyvka and the rotation of freshmen Hailee Jenkins and Maraina Smith have seen 16 appearances between the three in the circle.

SCOUTING REPORT

THE PHOENIX

Green Bay did not have a mid-week game at any point in the past couple of days following the Pheonix's #HLSB series against IUPUI where it dropped two games out of the three. Currently, UWGB is 2-5 in league play and sits eighth in the conference standings.

Tiffany Giese has appeared in all 31 games with 90 at-bats with 30 hits to lead the team in batting average at .333. Giese has only connected one extra-base hit and four RBI. Jaden Justman ranks seventh in the league in doubles with seven.

Brittany Baneck holds the conference's third-best ERA of 2.33 with a 6-6 record. Baneck has allowed 25 earned runs and tossed 48 strikeouts to her credit. Paeton Kringel is second on the team in ERA with 2.33.

Oakland took two of three in Wisconsin last season as well as picking up a 2-0 win in the #HLSB Tournament in Youngstown.

SYD JUST WINS, WINS, WINS
Redshirt junior pitcher, Sydney Campbell, secured her 49th career win in the circle for Oakland on March 22 in the first half of a doubleheader with IUPUI. Campbell bests Jessica Granger's record set from 2007-2009.

PICKED FIRST… AGAIN!
The Golden Grizzlies are slated to be first in the Horizon League for the 2023 season as voted on by the conference's Head Coaches back on February 8 with eight of the nine first-place votes.

STARTING AT 100
Head Coach Lauren Karn will start the 2023 campaign with 100 wins in her pocket as the all-time winningest head coach in Oakland Softball history. Prior to THE Spring Games on February 24, Karn sits at 100-104 in her five-year career.

A STORM IN THE CIRCLE
Pitcher Sydney Campbell returns to play as the reigning #HLSB Pitcher of the Year following a 2.23 earned run average with only 204 hits allowed in 864 at-bats the La Grange, Ohio native has faced. Campbell's name is littered through the OU record book as she's first in-season appearances (43) and season wins (23).
