Oakland associate head coach and Hall of Honor member Paul Doroh named Flint City Bucks head coach

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Announced at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, current Oakland Golden Grizzlies men's soccer associate head coach and 2010 Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor inductee Paul Doroh was named head coach of the Flint City Bucks.

Founded in 1995 and playing their home matches at the 11,000-seat Atwood Stadium in the historic Carriage Town district of downtown Flint, the Bucks are a member of USL League Two (USL2) and have captured four national championships. This new role will not impact Doroh's status with Oakland, as Flint City's season runs from May-July and the Golden Grizzlies compete in the fall.

A four-year starter and two-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection for Oakland from 1993-96, Doroh is one of the best defenders to ever suit up for the school and joined Eric Pogue's coaching staff with the Golden Grizzlies in 2016 as an assistant and was elevated to associate head coach in 2020, making the upcoming 2023 campaign his fourth in the position.

Following the end of his collegiate playing career, Doroh played for the Bucks and nearly won a USL2 national championship with the club in 1997, advancing all the way to the national semifinals. Furthering his connection with the Flint City operation, he also served as associate head coach for the team in 2022.

"I can't tell you how excited I am about getting this opportunity," Doroh said via the Bucks' official release.

"It is hard to believe that I have been affiliated with this club for over 25 years. This is going to be an exciting season for all of us and for the fans, supporters and sponsors in Flint."

Interestingly, and as pointed out by Pogue, Doroh becomes the fourth former Pioneer/Golden Grizzly to lead Flint City, including Andy Wagstaff, who had been in the role since 2020 and will now become an advisor alongside Director of Coaching and Player Personnel Gary Parsons, another Oakland great.

"Congratulations to our associate head coach Paul Doroh on this well-earned and deserved opportunity as the new head coach of the Flint City Bucks, one of the elite clubs in the USL League Two," said Pogue.

"Paul has been a huge part of our success at Oakland over the last decade and I know Paul will do an amazing job following in the footsteps of our other Oakland men's soccer coaches that have led the Bucks through the decades – Gary Parsons, Demir Muftari, Andy Wagstaff and now Paul.

"The Bucks have always played a huge role in the development of our players and coaches at Oakland over the last almost 30 years, so I wanted to thank Dan Duggan, Costa Papista, Gary Parsons, Demir Muftari and Andy Wagstaff for always giving Pioneers and Golden Grizzlies a place to pursue our ambitions and careers. Congrats, Paul!"

Looking to make a run at their fourth Horizon League Tournament championship since joining the conference in 2013, Oakland will begin their 2023 campaign in late August and Doroh's first home match as head coach of Flint City will come on Saturday, May 27 against Midwest United FC at 7:30 p.m.
