Metro Series Hits the Diamond at Buysse Ballpark

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The metro series will pick up once again on the diamond at Buysse Ballpark in Detroit where Oakland University Softball will battle #HLSB rival Detroit Mercy April 11-12 on ESPN+.

On Saturday, a walk-off single by Leah Bieniewicz propelled Oakland to a series-clinching win against Green Bay as the Golden Grizzlies advanced to 5-4 in #HLSB play, 9-12 overall. Maci Brown batted in two triples during game three, seeing only three pitches at one point with six bases. Oakland sits fifth in the conference standings.

Jen Krizka has the best batting average on the team at .340 with 17 hits, a team-high five triples, and two home runs. The Joliet, Illinois native is sixth in the conference above Allisa DiPrima in seventh who currently hits .339 with a team-high three triples. DiPrima is tied with Brown and Reese Ruhlman for total triples on the squad.

The aforementioned trio are all tied for the first in the league in total triples.

Krizka's on-base and slugging percentage are among the top in the Horizon League with a total of 1.175.

Freshmen Jenna Johnston, Kamryn Troyer, and Taylor Carraway provided successful plate appearances in the series win over the Phoenix last weekend with the former of the three smacking her first career home run over the right-center wall on Saturday.

The league's best ERA belongs to Sydney Campbell at 1.55 who has the most wins in the conference at eight, totaling only 19 earned runs allowed with the #HLSB's fewest walked batters with eight, four less than second.

Mia Konyvka and Maraina Smith have seen time in the circle as well, combining for 53 earned runs between the two and 21 strikeouts.

SCOUTING REPORT

THE TITANS

Detroit Mercy dropped two-straight, three-game #HLSB series to Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State on the road in the past two weeks as the Titans fell to last place in the Horizon League at 2-9 in conference play, 3-23 overall.

Only two Titans bat above .200 with Jaiden Lara and Trinity Fessler who each post a .258 and .218, respectively. Lara has a team-leading seven RBI to date with a team-high three home runs.

Olivia Warrington has the team's best ERA with 5.29 and a 2-12 record through her 80 innings pitched with 47 earned runs and 48 strikeouts. Chloe Spitzer has allowed 45 earned runs in 45 innings of play, going 1-7 on the year with a 9.00 ERA.

Oakland swept UDM in Rochester last season by scores of 4-0 and 7-2 (twice in the same day).

SYD JUST WINS, WINS, WINS
Redshirt junior pitcher, Sydney Campbell, secured her 49th career win in the circle for Oakland on March 22 in the first half of a doubleheader with IUPUI. Campbell bests Jessica Granger's record set from 2007-2009.

PICKED FIRST… AGAIN!
The Golden Grizzlies are slated to be first in the Horizon League for the 2023 season as voted on by the conference's Head Coaches back on February 8 with eight of the nine first-place votes.

STARTING AT 100
Head Coach Lauren Karn will start the 2023 campaign with 100 wins in her pocket as the all-time winningest head coach in Oakland Softball history. Prior to THE Spring Games on February 24, Karn sits at 100-104 in her five-year career.

A STORM IN THE CIRCLE
Pitcher Sydney Campbell returns to play as the reigning #HLSB Pitcher of the Year following a 2.23 earned run average with only 204 hits allowed in 864 at-bats the La Grange, Ohio native has faced. Campbell's name is littered through the OU record book as she's first in-season appearances (43) and season wins (23).

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Six freshmen join the Oakland roster in Jenna Johnston, Kayla Rodriguez, Maraina Smith, Taylor Carraway, Hailee Jenkins, and Kamryn Troyer
