Norse Land in Rochester for Oakland's First Home Series of 2023

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University Softball program will host its first home series of the 2023 campaign on March 24 in a doubleheader and on March 26 in a single game with Northern Kentucky.

The series was originally slated for March 24-25 in Rochester but inclement weather shifted the three-game grouping to Friday-Sunday split with Friday being the doubleheader day starting at 1:00 pm and Sunday the single game, also at 1:00 pm.

The Golden Grizzlies split its Tuesday doubleheader with IUPUI to start 1-1 in #HLSB play. Reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Year Sydney Campbell threw her 49th career win in the circle, marking a school record that has been held by 2007-2009 from Jessica Granger.

Campbell is 32nd in NCAA Division I in strikeout-to-walk ratio with the league-best earned run average of 1.58 with 11 earned runs in 195 at-bats faced, and a conference-wide low of four walked batters.

Mia Konyvka has the team's second-best ERA, 19th in #HLSB, at 4.83 with 17 earned runs. Hailee Jenkins and Maraina Smith have made combined four-game appearances this season.

Allisa DiPrima is now third in the conference in batting average with .400 including 16 hits and a league-high two triples plus a team-tying-high of eight runs batted in. As of March 23, DiPrima is 12th in Division I in triples per game though now has a calculated average of .17.

As a team, the Golden Grizzlies average .50 triples per game, putting the team in the top ten in NCAA Division I when the organization recalculates its statistical database.

Jen Krizka draws 1.00 walks per game with only a single strikeout as the catcher has the second-best batting average of the team at .370 with a team-high three doubles next to Maci Brown as the two have batted in eight and seven RBI, respectively. Brown posts a .324, tying Reese Ruhlman.

Krizka, Ruhlman, and Brown currently sit fifth, and a tie for eighth in the conference in batting average, respectively.

Madi Herrington has vaulted up the NCAA Division I stat rankings as one of the toughest batters to strikeout in the nation with only one strikeout in her 37 plate appearances with a standard of 37.0 which would put the sophomore 11th in the division, up from 20th on Monday.

SCOUTING REPORT

NORTHERN KENTUCKY

The Norse enter the weekend 2-0 in #HLSB after taking two away from Green Bay last weekend. The 2023 campaign has seen seven wins out of NKU with the latest doubleheader on Tuesday dropped to Dayton in Highland Heights for an overall mark of 7-17.
NKU is the fourth-best batting team in the conference at a team average of .228 while the Golden Grizzlies post .250 for first overall. The team's leading hitter, Ella LaMonier, has the league's sixth-best average of .350 with a team-high 28 hits and six RBI in 80 at-bats.

Just behind her sits Jenna O'Hair at .281 and Trinity Robertson at .277. Robertson has a team-high seven doubles to her credit with 25 strikeouts in 65 at-bats. LaMonier leads the conference in hits with her 28.

Lauren Hycks' 2.67 ERA is fifth in the league though both Alicia Flores and Madisyn Eads have pitched more innings at 74.0 and 48.2, respectively. Flores' 51 strikeouts put her fourth in the league with 15 of those looking (third in #HLSB).

The Golden Grizzlies swept the Norse in Highland Heights last season 3-1, 6-3, and 5-4. Since 2013, Oakland leads the series 14-6.

SYD JUST WINS, WINS, WINS
Redshirt junior pitcher, Sydney Campbell, secured her 49th career win in the circle for Oakland on March 22 in the first half of a doubleheader with IUPUI. Campbell bests Jessica Granger's record set from 2007-2009.

PICKED FIRST… AGAIN!
The Golden Grizzlies are slated to be first in the Horizon League for the 2023 season as voted on by the conference's Head Coaches back on February 8 with eight of the nine first-place votes.

STARTING AT 100
Head Coach Lauren Karn will start the 2023 campaign with 100 wins in her pocket as the all-time winningest head coach in Oakland Softball history. Prior to THE Spring Games on February 24, Karn sits at 100-104 in her five-year career.

A STORM IN THE CIRCLE
Pitcher Sydney Campbell returns to play as the reigning #HLSB Pitcher of the Year following a 2.23 earned run average with only 204 hits allowed in 864 at-bats the La Grange, Ohio native has faced. Campbell's name is littered through the OU record book as she's first in-season appearances (43) and season wins (23).
