FGCU Sweeps Oakland in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. – Oakland University Softball dropped both games of its doubleheader with Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday in Fort Myers at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Game One // FGCU 6, Oakland 4

The Golden Grizzlies started out the top half of the first inning with a three-and-out while the home Eagles got their bats humming early, reaching base off an immediate error by Oakland. One run would score for FGCU at the end of one, and the second-inning highlight came from the team's first triple of the year from Reese Ruhlman.

FGCU broke open three runs in the bottom of the third as Oakland answered via a big fourth inning. Allisa DiPrima started the side with a single down into left field, advancing to second via a walk to Jen Krizka.

DiPrima would be out at third the next at-bat with Ruhlman reaching on a fielder's choice and Krizka at third, setting up Leah Bieniewicz's double bringing in an RBI with Krizka as Oakland started to chew into the Eagles' lead at 4-1. Freshman Kamryn Troyer singled up the middle and clocked in an RBI with Ruhlman crossing home at 4-2.

Jenna Johnston's sacrifice fly to left lit the greenlight for Bieniewicz to cross home as Oakland tied the game from Makayla Jauregui's double to right field allowing Troyer to go home and knot things up 4-4.

At the conclusion of the fourth, Oakland saw no more runs from the offense as FGCU put up two late runs on the scoreboard at the FGCU Softball Complex in the bottom of the sixth to hand the Golden Grizzlies their third loss of the season in part one of the doubleheader.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Ruhlman and Jauregui registered two hits apiece as the former of the two clocked the first triple of the year as mentioned earlier
  • Sydney Campbell had eight hits allowed in the 30 at-bats faced

Game Two // FGCU 8, Oakland 2

The Eagles planted two runs on the board early in game two via a home run to left field. Bieniewicz's RBI single up the middle allowed for DiPrima to score in the top of the fourth to force the game at 2-1.

Ruhlman's sacrifice fly to center field allowed for DiPrima to score once more for the second, and final, score for the Golden Grizzlies in the game as the Eagles pulled away in the bottom of the sixth inning.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • DiPrima was the only Golden Grizzly to score both runs with a 3-2 plate appearance with a triple
