ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Women's Soccer Midfielder Karabo Dhalamini has signed with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Football Club of South Africa, the most successful women's club in the nation, as the second Golden Grizzly to sign a professional contract this offseason.
"While we are sad we have had to say good bye to Karabo, we understand that playing in a World Cup for your country is one of the greatest honors a soccer player can ever experience. With her success last summer in the African Cup of Nations, she is a player that will be vying for a starting role for her national team.", said Head Coach
Juan Pablo Favero.
Sundowns are the most successful Hollywoodbets Super league in the top flight of the women's association football based out of South Africa. With a capacity of 51,762 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Dhlamini joins a squad with five SFA Women's League titles in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2015, and 2013.
"Being closer to home, and playing in one of the top women's clubs in the African continent, will help her better prepare for the World Cup," said Favero, "We are grateful for her two phenomenal years at Oakland and while we will miss her on the team, we wish her much success with Mamelodi Sundowns as well as in the FIFA World Cup with the Banyana Banyana."
On the international circuit, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC took the CAF Women's Champions League in 2021, an event that features the best women's football clubs on the continent of Africa, while also making an appearance in the 2022 finals.
Dhlamini previously joined the South African National Team where the redshirt junior aided Banyana Banyana's efforts to a 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup berth in New Zealand after winning the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations 2-1 over powerhouse Morocco.
In the 2022 season, the Johannesburg native had one goal and three assists through 17 games with eight shots on goal. Dhalamini was a decorated #HLWSOC competitor with an All-League First Team selection in 2022 and an All-League Second Team honor in 2021.
