Golden Grizzlies Seek to Handle Phoenix in Green Bay

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Basketball will make the trip to Wisconsin for two games starting with the Phoenix of Green Bay on Thursday, February 9 at 8:00 pm on ESPN+. The "Voice of the Golden Grizzlies" Neal Ruhl will be on the call on TheBet 1270AM (WXYT-AM).

Oakland overcame a 16-point deficit to beat Cleveland State in overtime 92-89 on Saturday as Blake Lampman registered a career-high 22 points while Trey Townsend recorded his sixth double-double of the season, the second-straight game with that feat, as the Oxford native had 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Both of these individuals blocked career-high four shots apiece. Jalen Moore was the team's leading scorer with 25 points to go with his seven assists.

Moore leads the team in scoring 18.0 points per game with the 14th-best assist per game stat in NCAA Division I with 5.9 per game ahead of student-athletes from Arizona, Michigan State, Kentucky, and a slew of others. The senior is 17th in the country in total assists with 129.

Townsend has now vaulted to 8.1 boards per game following Saturday to hang on to fifth in the conference statistical rankings. Keaton Hervey sits eighth with 6.7 a game.

Now in second in #HLMBB in steals per game, Moore averages 2.1 per contest with his teammate Lampman in fourth at 2.0 for a formidable defensive duo. With his career-high four blocks against CSU, Townsend is now fourth in the league with 1.2 blocks per game.

Lampman is third in the conference in three-point shooting with a 33.8% (53-157) mark following his 5-9 from Saturday.

Moore and Townsend are first and third in the conference, respectively, in minutes per game with 38.0 and 36.4. This puts each athlete at third and 15th in NCAA Division I.

Townsend was named to the Lou Henson Award Watchlist on November 22 as one of four #HLMBB student-athletes listed.

Moore was the lone Golden Grizzly named to the Preseason #HLMBB All-League Team honor with OU predicted fourth with two first-place votes in the preseason poll as Purdue Fort Wayne and Northern Kentucky tied for the top honor. The Horizon League and ESPN released the annual wildcard selections for national telecasts with Oakland on four of the five potential selected dates, denoted on the team's schedule page and the game notes.

Head Coach Greg Kampe enters his 39th season at the helm for Oakland University as the second-longest tenured coach in NCAA Division I basketball behind Jim Boeheim from Syracuse, who is in his 42nd season. Kampe has posted a 672-521 (56.8%) career record.

The early signing period has come for OU as Aundre Polk will join the team on The Blacktop in the fall of 2023. Polk is a former MAC All-Freshman Team member at Central Michigan.

The Washington Wizards have acquired former Oakland University Men's Basketball student-athlete Kendrick Nunn from the Los Angeles Lakers.

1,000 POINT CLUB
Townsend became the 37th Golden Grizzly to reach 1,000 career points in the team's overtime win against IUPUI off a free throw. Townsend followed it up with his 500th rebound in the win versus Detroit Mercy.
