Softball Primed for FGCU Doubleheader

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Softball will do battle in Fort Myers, Florida against Florida Gulf Coast in a familiar matchup in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 1 starting at 5:00 pm.

Oakland wrapped up a 2-2 weekend at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida with wins over OVC-favorite UT-Martin and Valparaiso, both in comeback fashion. Wednesday's doubleheader will start a rugged week for the Golden Grizzlies who will wrap up action in Fort Myers and travel to Boca Raton Thursday-Saturday for the FAU Owl Classic for a four-game slate.

Allisa DiPrima and Maci Brown come out as the top two batters for the Golden Grizzlies following the weekend's action as the two hold the best batting averages in #HLSB, naturally through only four games, with .462 and .455, respectively.

With six hits, DiPrima leads the team with Brown and Jen Krizka in tow at five and four, respectively. The White Lake native also went a perfect 3-3 at the plate against Siena on Monday. Brown struck a walk-off single for the go-ahead run by Krizka for the victory over UT-Martin.

Sophomore Madi Herrington has four runs to her stat line after her career-high two hits against Valpo with Krizka, who has pulled double duty at catcher and first base.

Two freshmen, Kamryn Troyer and Jenna Johnston, have been a welcomed addition to the lineup for Oakland with the two seeing action in all four games but only a hit accounted for from the Troyer in 14 plate appearances.

In the circle, Sydney Campbell is 2-0 on the year in four game appearances in 16.2 innings pitched. The redshirt junior has a conference-low 0.42 earned run average, allowing only 13 hits in 61 batters faced with just two runs to her credit.

Mia Konyvka along with freshmen Maraina Smith and Hailee Jenkins have also made pitching appearances for the Golden Grizzlies.

SCOUTING REPORT

FGCU

The Eagles have 18 games under their belt in the 2023 season, entering Wednesday's doubleheader with a final-day sweep over Troy and Lamar at the FSU Tournament. FGCU is 7-4 at home with former Oakland Assistant Coach Jenna Modic-Blythers on staff in Fort Myers.

Tayli Filla leads the squad in batting average with .328 with a team-high 20 hits and 16 RBI. The Fort Myers native along with Kayleigh Roper are tied for first in the Atlantic Sun Conference with three home runs apiece while Filla has batted five doubles while four others are just behind her with four, respectively.

Baylee Haggard has the best ERA of the Eagles at 2.81 allowing 29 hits in 120 at-bats in 32.1 innings of work. Ally Hulme is just behind at a 3.35 ERA with 51 hits in 190 at-bats. Collectively, FGCU's pitching leaders have 33 strikeouts.

Oakland and Florida Gulf Coast have met nine previous times since 2014 with the last meeting coming in the 2018 season, resulting in 5-4 and 7-1 losses for the Golden Grizzlies. FGCU holds the all-time series 8-1.

PICKED FIRST… AGAIN!
The Golden Grizzlies are slated to be first in the Horizon League for the 2023 season as voted on by the conference's Head Coaches back on February 8 with eight of the nine first-place votes.

A STORM IN THE CIRCLE

Campbell's name is littered through the OU record book as she's first in-season appearances (43) and season wins (23).
