Senior Night Showdown with NKU Next for Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Basketball will host senior night and the Northern Kentucky Norse in the 2022-23 regular season conclusion on Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 pm on ESPN+ at the Athletics Center O'rena. The "Voice of the Golden Grizzlies" Neal Ruhl will be on the call with Jeff Riger on analysis.

Jalen Moore put on a show in Oakland's 75-68 home victory over Wright State on Thursday where the Cloverdale, Indiana native posted 35 points, his third 30-point game this year (the sixth overall for the team). Moore and Keaton Hervey had nine rebounds in the eleventh #HLMBB win.

With the Golden Grizzlies' win on Thursday plus a Robert Morris loss to IUPUI and an NKU win over Detroit Mercy, Oakland has locked up the fifth seed ahead of the Barbasol 2023 #HLMBB Tournament. The team will travel to play an undetermined opponent on Thursday, March 2.

Moore leads the black and gold with 19.3 points per game which is third in the Horizon League ahead of Trey Townsend and Hervey who are standing at 16.5 and 11.5 points respectively. Townsend has the sixth-best rebounding mark in the conference, first on the team, with 7.8 boards per game after grabbing eight on Thursday.

The aforementioned point guard is 14th in the country in assists per game with 5.7 and 14th in total assists as well with 155.

Blake Lampman is still fourth in the league in three-point shooting at 31.3% (65-208) while holding down fourth in three-point field goals per game with 2.5.

Oakland moves to sixth in the conference in offensive scoring with 73.5 points per game. The Golden Grizzlies are 9-3 when scoring 75-plus points and 3-13 with 74 or less. Prior to Thursday's game, Oakland was 2-14 when losing at halftime.

Moore and Hervey will be honored for their tenures as Golden Grizzlies. Fans are invited to a meet and greet with players and the staff during postgame festivities.

Townsend was named to the Lou Henson Award Watchlist on November 22 as one of four #HLMBB student-athletes listed.

Moore was the lone Golden Grizzly named to the Preseason #HLMBB All-League Team honor with OU predicted fourth with two first-place votes in the preseason poll as Purdue Fort Wayne and Northern Kentucky tied for the top honor. The Horizon League and ESPN released the annual wildcard selections for national telecasts with Oakland on four of the five potential selected dates, denoted on the team's schedule page and the game notes.

Head Coach Greg Kampe enters his 39th season at the helm for Oakland University as the second-longest tenured coach in NCAA Division I basketball behind Jim Boeheim from Syracuse, who is in his 42nd season. Kampe has posted a 675-522 (56.8%) career record.

The early signing period has come for OU as Aundre Polk will join the team on The Blacktop in the fall of 2023. Polk is a former MAC All-Freshman Team member at Central Michigan.

The Washington Wizards have acquired former Oakland University Men's Basketball student-athlete Kendrick Nunn from the Los Angeles Lakers.

SCOUTING REPORT

NORTHERN KENTUCKY

The Norse are sitting fourth in the Horizon League standings with a 13-6 conference record to its credit following a nail-biting road win against Detroit Mercy on Thursday 67-64. Marques Warrick posted 20 points in the win as Chris Brandon grabbed 12 boards.

In the two team's last meeting, Moore was fouled while making a deep ball shot with five seconds on the clock as the senior nailed all three attempts to secure a come-from-behind in Highland Heights.

Warrick leads the Norse with 19.1 points per game, fourth in the league, with Sam Vinson and Trevon Faulkner averaging 11.1 and 8.6, respectively. Brandon is still good for 9.4 rebounds per contest which puts him second in the conference.

Since 1984, the series is tied 10-10 with Oakland's win in January. The Golden Grizzlies are 6-3 on the road while just 3-5 at home.

1,000 POINT CLUB
Townsend became the 37th Golden Grizzly to reach 1,000 career points in the team's overtime win against IUPUI off a free throw. Townsend followed it up with his 500th rebound in the win versus Detroit Mercy.
