OAKLAND, MILWAUKEE TO BATTLE IN SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER

The Golden Grizzlies can take the season series with a split

Milwaukee, Wisc. – Completing their five-game season set, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and Milwaukee Panthers will square off in a traditional doubleheader on Sunday, May 8.

The first game will begin at 1 p.m., with the second following at approximately 4 p.m.

As it custom with scheduled doubleheaders in the Horizon League, the first game will be seven innings in length, while the second will be the full nine.

Oakland will take a 24-21 (13-8 Horizon League) record and a five-game win streak into play, while the Panthers are 17-23 (6-12).

All-time record against Milwaukee
First meeting in the Golden Grizzlies' first season in the Horizon League on April 5, 2014, these two programs have faced each other 46 times, with the Panthers holding a 27-19 edge.

Oakland took two of three in Rochester earlier this year from April 29-May 1 and has won five of the last seven, dating to April 30, 2021.

About the Panthers
Currently at the bottom of the seven-team league standings, Milwaukee is led by 16th-year head coach Scott Doffek.

The winningest coach in program history, the 53-year-old Doffek picked up his 400th career victory earlier this season.

An interesting fact for those that may not know – The Panthers are the only NCAA Division I baseball program in the state of Wisconsin, as the Madison-based Badgers do not field a team.

One of three players above the .300 mark, junior second baseman Mark Connelly is Milwaukee's leading hitter at .317 (38-120).

Connelly's eight doubles are tied with third baseman Aaron Chapman and left fielder Luke Seidel, both fellow juniors, for the team lead.

Chapman and Seidel are the two other Panthers hitting above .300, both checking in at .310, and have been the club's biggest base-stealing threats, swiping 12 and 14 bags, respectively.

6-foot-6 first baseman Nate DeYoung, another junior, has shown some serious power in his left-handed bat, launching a team-high six home runs.

When it comes to relief arms, junior lefty Andy Neu, and freshman Keagon Kaufmann and sophomore James Severson, both righties, have been relied upon options for Doffek, making a combined 37 appearances out of the bullpen.
