HORIZON LEAGUE PLAY OPENS FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS THIS WEEKEND

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Tennis gears up for a trip out east to start the 2022 Horizon League slate with games against Cleveland State on Friday, April 1 and Youngstown State on Sunday, April 3. 

The Golden Grizzlies completed the non-conference slate last weekend with a 7-0 home win over Lake Superior State before falling on the road 5-2 against Valparaiso down in Indiana. This spring, Oakland has had two three-game winning streaks including the win over the Lakers as well as Chicago State and Bowling Green on the road.

Liza Mladentseva stands at 5-4 overall this season in singles, 4-3 at the number one spot while Mia Melnizki currently rides a four-game winning streak for 6-3 overall splitting time between five and six singles. 

The most dangerous duo on this Golden Grizzlies roster comes in Yasmin Glazbrook and Nirva Patel in number one doubles at 7-1 overall with the tag team's last loss coming against Bowling Green.

SCOUTING REPORT

CLEVELAND STATE

Coming off a 7-0 defeat to in-state Xavier, the Vikings sit at 7-10 on the season as conference play opens. CSU suffered seven-straight losses beginning on February 18 to March 23 where it swept Niagara 7-0 in Cleveland.

The doubles team of Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch is 10-8 on the year in the number two spot with Sima Heren and Kiara Mrcela holding an 8-5 record at the number one position. In the singles games, Oihana Vicario leads CSU at the number one spot at 10-7.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE

YSU is 2-3 in its last five games with wins over Buffalo and Duquesne while dropping a trip to California against Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, and Long Beach State two weekends ago. This makes the red and white 3-1 at home on the year with the win over the Dukes as well as Saint Francis (Pa.) and Bowling Green.

The Penguins have a stellar number one doubles record of 8-2 on the year in Julia Marko and Cecilia Rosas through those ten games played while Rosas also holds the number one singles spot for YSU at 6-7 overall.


Action will get underway Friday at 3:00 p.m. against the Vikings before an 11:00 a.m. start time against YSU on Sunday.
