ROCHESTER, Mich. -Â Freshman Brandon Nigh racked up four hits to help power the Oakland Golden Grizzlies past the Rochester Warriors 14-4 on Wednesday.
Travis Densmore started on the mound and picked up the win for Oakland. The left-hander went three shutout innings while giving up three hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Freshman Hunter Pidek also made an impact on the mound for the Golden Grizzlies, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
In addition to his four hits, Nigh had a double, a home run and five RBIs to lead the Golden Grizzlies. Senior Cam Post put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and three RBIs. Brandon Heidal also helped out for Oakland, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two doubles and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Grizzlies got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Oakland's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Post and a two-run double from Nigh.
The Warriors failed to push any runs across before the Golden Grizzlies built on their lead in the fourth inning. Oakland plated two runs off of Rochester pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Post, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies.
Oakland kept Rochester without a run before building their lead to 9-0 the following inning. The Golden Grizzlies scored twice on back-to-back home runs from Nigh and Thomas Green.
Oakland kept the Warriors without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Golden Grizzlies scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Nigh, bringing the score to 13-0 in favor of Oakland.
The Golden Grizzlies kept Rochester scoreless before building on their lead to 14-0 the following inning. Oakland scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Gabe Lux. Rochester put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Grizzlies still coasted to the 14-4 win.
