POGUE EXTENDS CONTRACT THROUGH 2025

SIGNED

ROCHESTER, Mich. —
Oakland University head soccer coach Eric Pogue has signed a contract extension through the 2025 season, Director of Athletics Steve Waterfield announced.

In fall 2022, Pogue will enter his 14th season as the head coach and 21st season overall at Oakland, serving as the lead assistant coach for seven years from 2002-08.

Under his direct leadership, the Golden Grizzlies have won four league regular-season titles, four tournament championships, and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including advancing to the second round in 2014.

"I'd like to sincerely thank Director of Athletics Steve Waterfield for entrusting in me and giving me the opportunity to lead the Oakland University men's soccer for four more years. It really is a dream come true for me to be a part of this program, as I grew up watching Oakland Pioneers soccer and coming to Oakland summer camps in the 80s & 90s, as well as playing for Oakland in 95/96," Pogue said. "Going into my 21st season this Fall on the sidelines, the legacy of Oakland has always been something so important for me to uphold—that sustained standard of excellence, especially with Fall 2022 being our 50th season of Oakland Men's Soccer."

In 2021, Pogue earned his fourth Coach of the Year award and took the Golden Grizzlies to the NCAA Tournament after claiming regular season and Horizon League Championship titles. Oakland took on Northern Illinois in the first round of the tournament and fell 2-1 after a challenging game. Before the NCAA tournament, the team completed a comeback for the ages, erasing a 3-0 second-half deficit and securing a 4-3 win over Cleveland State (10/9), who was previously unbeaten Horizon League play. Oakland then upset nationally-ranked Louisville (10/19) on the road and closed the regular season unbeaten in their last eight HL contests.

This year, a league-high seven Golden Grizzlies earned All-Horizon League honors, including Mikey Ketteman and Noah Jensen, who earned first-team honors. The pair also earned spots on the United Coaches 2021 NCAA Division I Men's All-North Region Teams.

In addition to his coaching and recruiting duties, Pogue owns and runs Oakland Soccer Camps LLC, a summer program that serves more than 900 campers each year.

"I've been extremely blessed through my 21 years coaching Oakland with an amazing staff of assistant coaches, ATCs, support staff, as well as super talented and driven young men that have allowed us to compete for championships and NCAA Tournaments on a yearly basis. For Fall 2022, I have high expectations for our Team 50, as we work hard to repeat as Horizon League champions—as the great John Wooden said, 'Winning takes talent; to repeat takes character' and we have both," Pogue added. "Go Golden Grizzlies!"
