Oakland Hall of Honor member Mike Brosseau re-signs with Milwaukee Brewers

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Shared by the club on Twitter on Thursday, December 1, Oakland Golden Grizzlies alum and three-year major league veteran infielder Mike Brosseau, 28, agreed to a one-year, $1.4M contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, avoiding arbitration.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand provided the financial terms of the deal.

Making his big league debut on June 23, 2019 after his contract was selected from the Triple-A Durham Bulls the day prior, Brosseau played his first three seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, which were highlighted by his series-winning home run off flamethrowing left-hander Aroldis Chapman of the division rival New York Yankees in Game 5 of the 2020 American League Championship Series, a shot that sent the Rays to their second World Series in franchise history.

Traded to the Brewers on November 13, 2021 in exchange for relief pitcher Evan Reifert, manager Craig Counsell primarily used the right-handed Brosseau in a platoon fashion against left-handed pitching, as he faced a southpaw in 105 of his 160 plate appearances in 2022.

With defensive versatility being another part of his skill set, Brosseau played in 55 games at third base for Milwaukee a year ago, while also seeing time at first base and shortstop. He even finished three games on the mound, working three scoreless frames and giving up just two hits.

Growing up in Munster, Indiana, just 35 miles away from the Chicago Cubs' historic home of Wrigley Field in – a venue he now travels to multiple times per season with the Brewers also residing in the National League Central – Brosseau starred for the Andrean Fighting 59'ers, helping them to their second-straight Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state title as a sophomore in 2010.

A four-year starter at shortstop for the Golden Grizzlies from 2013-16, he twice earned First Team All-Horizon League recognition and led the conference in on-base percentage (.456) and was second in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.571) as a senior. His 319 career total bases are fourth on Oakland's all-time list and his 217 hits are fifth.

Emphasizing the friendships and relationships he built during his time as a Golden Grizzly, Brosseau was inducted into the Oakland University Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor as part of the Class of 2022 and his pictured is prominently featured just inside the doors of the O'rena.

Part of the Arizona-based Cactus League, 2023 Spring Training for Brosseau and Milwaukee is scheduled to begin with the first full-squad workout on February 20 and their first exhibition contest five days later.

The regular season opener is set for Thursday, March 30 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
