KONITZER FANS 10 AS OAKLAND SNAPS LOSING SKID WITH DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT WITH MILWAUKEE

Konitzer posts career-high 10 strikeouts in 8-5 game one win, Oakland falls 14-13 in game two which was called in the ninth inning due to darkness

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
 Bryce Konitzer delivered a solid performance on the mound posting a career-high 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work leading Oakland to an 8-5 win over Milwaukee in game one of a doubleheader which snapped a nine-game skid in Horizon League play on Saturday at the Oakland Baseball Field. The Golden Grizzlies then came up short, 14-13, falling in a wild game that was called in the top of the ninth inning due to darkness. On the day, Cam Post went 6-for- 8 with a home run, two doubles, three runs with five RBI.

Hayden Nierman also made an impact on the mound throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts to pick up the save.

Offensively, Oakland (9-18, 3-13 HL) were paced by Post, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Michael Stygles furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Brandon Heidal went 1-for-2 with two RBI while Jared Miller also contributed with one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.

The Golden Grizzlies were trailing 4-0 in the first inning when they first put two runs on the board off Post's RBI single and an RBI ground out from Tyler Trovinger.

Seth Tucker came across to score the lone run of the second inning for off a sacrifice fly from Stygles Oakland, which brought Oakland within a run at 4-3.

Heidal's RBI single tied the game at 4-4 in the third.

Oakland got going again on offense in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Post, bringing the Oakland advantage to 8-4. Milwaukee put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over as the Golden Grizzlies held on for the 8-5 win.

In the nightcap, Post racked up four hits with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Golden Grizzlies. Miller compiled a standout performance as well, going 3-for-6 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Brenton Phillips also chipped in putting together three hits in six trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBIs.

Nierman was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on two hits, walking one, and striking out four.

The Golden Grizzlies were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Oakland scored twice in the inning on back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Post and Stygles.

Milwaukee built their lead to 9-5 before Oakland cut the lead to 9-7 in the fifth scoring twice off a wild pitch and Phillips' RBI single.

After the Panthers expanded their lead to 11-7, Oakland's offense got back to work scoring five runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Phillips to take a 12-11 lead.

Milwaukee then regained the lead at 14-12 in the eighth when the Golden Grizzlies cut that deficit to one run at 14-13 off Miller's two-out solo home run off of freshman AJ Blubaugh. 

However, heading into the ninth inning, the umpires called the game due to darkness.

Oakland welcomes former Horizon League member Valparaiso for a four-game series starting on Friday, Apr. 9 at 2 p.m.
