
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Michael Stygles went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while
Cam Post hit 3-for-4 with an RBI as Oakland received contributions from every part of their lineup with all nine starters reaching base safely. However, their late-inning rally came up as the Golden Grizzlies fell to UIC, 11-6, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Brandon Heidal also went 1-for-4 with an RBI double while
Austin Higgins also recorded a double and run scored.
Brenton Phillips and
Gabe Lux each had two hits while
Jared Miller,
Tyler Trovinger,
Blake Griffith,
Reagan Paulina also each accounted for one of Oakland's (8-13, 2-8 HL) 15 hits.
The Golden Grizzlies were trailing 9-0 in the fifth inning when they put three runs on board off an RBI single from Post, RBI fielder's choice from
Luke Malmanger, and RBI single from Stygles to trail 9-3.
After UIC (5-11, 4-6 HL) added a pair of runs, Oakland added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh highlight by Stygles' two-run shot followed by Heidal's RBI double closing the game to 11-6. However, the Golden Grizzlies were unable to get another big hit stranding three runners on base to end the game.
The second DH game was postponed due to darkness with UIC leading 13-1 in the top of the 8th inning. The game is scheduled to resume on Sunday, March 28 at 12 p.m., weather provided, followed by the series finale.
