ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's tennis team continues Horizon League play with a pair of home dual matches against Youngstown. The Golden Grizzlies and Jaguars square off on Saturday, Mar. 27 and Sunday, Mar. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Center.

Nirva Patel named Nike® Horizon League Women's Singles Player of the Week :
Patel, a Somerset, UK native, went a perfect 2-0 at the No. 2 singles position helping Oakland win their first two matches of the season over IUPUI to go 2-0 in Horizon League play. She defeated Gabrielle Ochalik in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, in Oakland's 5-2 win and followed that up with a hard-fought three-set win over Christina Stankovic (5-7, 6-1, 7-5) helping the Golden Grizzlies to a 4-3 win to complete the weekend sweep.

Match 1: The Golden Grizzlies won their first match of the season with a 5-2 win over IUPUI to open Horizon League play (3/20). After winning the doubles point,
Yasmin Glazbrook,
Nirva Patel,
Mia Melnizki and
Emma Hultqvist each won at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 singles positions respectively.

Despite defaulting at the No. 3 doubles position, Patel and Galzbrook defeated Krystal Grubb and Gabrielle Ochalik, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot followed by Joëlle Tabernal and Hultqvist who took out Sarah Lounsbury and Christina Lounsbury at the No. 2 position to claim the double point.

In singles play, Oakland won 4-of-6 matches as Glazbrook won by injury default over Grubb at No. 1 while Patel defeated Ochalik in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 position. Melnizki outlasted Lounsbury in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 3 followed by Hultqvist who also won in straight sets over Hayward, 6-2, 6-4.

Match - 2: With the match tied at 3-3,
Mia Melnizki grinded out a three-set win over Sarah Lounsbury, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 singles position to give Oakland a thrilling 4-3 won over IUPUI on Sunday to remain unbeaten in Horizon League play.
Nirva Patel set the stage with a hard-fought three-set win over Christina Stankovic, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot to draw the match even at 3-3.

Oakland entered singles play down 2-0 after dropping the doubles point and forfeiting at the No. 6 singles spot.
Yasmin Glazbrook cruised to a 6-1, 6-1, straight-set win over Gabrielle Ochalik at No. 1 followed by
Emma Hultqvist who downed Samantha Hayward in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot to tie the match at 2-2.

Emma Hultqvist in 3-7 at the No. 4 and No. 5.

- Glazbrook and Patel lead the way in doubles at the No. 1 position with a 4-4 mark with wins coming at Ball State, twice against EMU and against IUPUI.

- Joëlle Tabernal won her first singles match of the season defeating Isabella Schoolcraft in the sets 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (14-12) at No. 4 singles as Oakland completed non-conference play with a hard-fought 6-1 set back at Valparaiso (3/13).

Yasmin Glazbrook won a match at the No. 1 singles position against Eastern Michigan grinding out a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 three-set win over Isabelle Popma and also teamed with
Nirva Patel for a 7-6 (7-3) win over Popma and Julia Piatek at the No. 1 doubles spot. However, it was not enough as the Golden Grizzlies fell, 6-1, to the Eagles (3/6).
