STIFLING DEFENSE LEADS TO 78-45 WIN AT IUPUI

RECAP - IUPUI
INDIANAPOLIS
— Oakland forced a season-high 23 turnovers and shot 28-of-32 from the free throw line as the Golden Grizzlies rolled past IUPUI 78-45 on Saturday afternoon inside the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The 33-point win was OU's largest margin of victory against a Horizon League program since joining the conference in 2013.

Oakland (7-2, 2-0 HL) featured a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring in double-figures. Junior point guard Jalen Moore led the Golden Grizzlies with 15 points and six assists, including a 10-of-10 clip at the charity stripe. All 10 of his free throws transpired in the second half.

Second-year freshman Trey Townsend had an all-around game with 14 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Another second-year freshman in Micah Parrish totaled a season-high 14 points and added five rebounds and three steals, while graduate senior Jamal Cain had 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Golden Grizzly defense held an opponent to 45 or fewer points for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Jaguars (1-7, 0-2 HL) shot just 35-percent (18-of-51) from the field and 12% (2-of-16) on 3-point attempts. Oakland turned IUPUI's 23 turnovers into 32 points and outscored the home squad 20-9 in second-chance points.

Oakland trailed 6-4 early on but responded with a 13-2 run to go ahead 17-8 with 11:29 left in the first half. The Golden Grizzlies continued to hold the momentum, using a 7-0 scoring spurt to extend their lead to 31-14 with 2:52 to go.

Freshman Osei Price drilled a 3-pointer to build Oakland's lead to 34-16 at the 2:01 minute mark, but IUPUI outscored OU 4-2 for the remainder of the period, making the score 36-20 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies at the break.

Both teams shot 41% from the floor in the half, but Oakland took advantage with 23 points off 17 first-half turnovers by IUPUI. Parrish and Townsend paced the OU offense with nine points apiece, while Moore added five points, three assists, and three steals.

The Golden Grizzlies started the second half on a 7-0 run, growing their edge to 43-22 at the 17:47 minute mark. IUPUI reduced its deficit to 45-30, but Oakland put the game away with a 16-0 run, resulting in a 61-30 lead with 7:25 to go. OU shot 8-of-8 on free throws in the scoring spurt.

Oakland led by 29 or more points the rest of the way, resulting in a 78-45 victory against the Jags. In the second half alone, the Golden Grizzlies converted on 19 of their 21 attempts at the charity stripe and outrebounded IUPUI 22-17.

OU will continue its road slate on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Bowling Green.
