ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland baseball team announced its 2022 schedule, which includes critical matchups against the Wolverines (Mar. 30), Spartans (Apr. 19), and CMU (Apr. 12). 

The season highlights a vast home game schedule as Oakland will host Rochester University, Aquinas College, CMU, PFW, BGSU, Youngstown, NIU, Milwaukee, Wright State, NKU, and UIC.  

"The non-conference slate includes three teams that played in an NCAA Regional last year (Pitt, U-M, CMU) and is highlighted by big in-state matchups against Michigan, Michigan State, and Central Michigan. Those games provide a great measuring stick for our program as we continue to put OU Baseball on the map," Head Coach Jordon Banfield said. "Additionally, we have 22 home games scheduled, which is far more than recent years and something that was very important to me when assembling the schedule."

Oakland opens the season with road trips to CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 18-20), New Mexico State (Feb. 25-27), Marshall (Mar. 3-6), and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (Mar. 11-13). Oakland will also take on top Michigan opponents, the Wolverines (Mar. 30) and Spartans (Apr. 19). 

"I'm really excited about the schedule we have been able to put together for the 2022 season as it includes opponents from seven different D1 leagues. Opening the year with multiple trips out west nearly assures that we will play in good weather and allows our guys to experience different parts of the country that they may not have been to before," Banfield added. 

The Golden Grizzlies begin Horizon League play against defending Horizon League Champion Wright State (Mar. 15) before hosting PFW (Mar. 25-27) and Youngstown (Apr. 1-3). The team heads to UIC (Apr. 8-10) before doubleheaders against Youngstown (Apr. 22) and PFW (Apr. 24), ending the month with a trip to Milwaukee (Apr. 29- Feb. 01). After Milwaukee, the Golden Grizzlies will take on Pittsburgh (May. 3-4). 

Regular conference play wraps up after the Golden Grizzlies host NKU (May 13) and UIC for doubleheaders (May 15). The Horizon League Championships will be held May 25-28.
