ROCHESTER, Michigan - Oakland University softball heads south for the weekend, playing five games as part of the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida, from February 21-23. The Golden Grizzlies open play on Friday with Troy and Morgan State. 

Friday's opening matchup against Troy is set for 1 pm with game two to follow against Morgan State. On Saturday, the Golden Grizzlies take on Clemson and Villanova, starting at 1 pm with the Tigers. The tournament concludes on Sunday with Stetson at 10 a.m. 

Oakland comes into the weekend 3-1, its best start since 2017. The Golden Grizzlies opened the season with a 6-1 win over Buffalo last week. After falling to USC-Upstate, Oakland bounced back with victories over Massachusetts and Maryland Eastern Shore. 

Freshman pitcher Sydney Campbell went 2-0 with a save in three appearances a week ago. Campbell struck out 11 batters in 15.1 innings of work, limiting opponents to just three earned runs. 

Sophomore Lauren Griffith went 6-of-12 at the Upstate Classic with two doubles and an RBI. Sophomore Kayla Gibson and r-sophomore Cammie Brummitt led the Golden Grizzlies with three RBI in the opening weekend. Seven different players notched multiple hits over the first four games of the year.
