TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

MALIBU, Calif. – Ava Thielman earned her first singles win of the Oracle ITA Masters in the first round of the consolation bracket against Rosie Cheng from William & Mary, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) Friday from Pepperdine University.
 
Thielman fell behind in both sets 4-2 but battled back in set one winning the final four games to take the opening set, 6-4. Finding herself down 4-2 in the second set, Thielman rallied to tie things up at four-all before winning the final three points to secure the win.
 
Thielman will compete in the second round Saturday against the winner of Iuliia Bryzgalova (Penn) and Alexa Quintanilla (Mount St. Mary's).
