
ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Softball team will take on the No. 3 Penguins of Youngstown State on Wednesday, May 8 at 3:30 pm ET/2:30 pm CT in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament.
During the regular conference season, the Golden Grizzlies were swept by Youngstown to kick off their conference season.
All tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Notes
-Senior
Kelsie Swanson earned All-League First Team honors for her consistent efforts offensively and defensively all season long.

Jamie Squires earned All-League Second Team honors and
Lauren Griffith earned herself a spot on the All-Freshman Team.

Mikayela Marciniak and
Jessie Munson were the two softball athletes to earn All-Academic honors. Marciniak holds a 3.75 GPA in human resources management and Munson has maintained a 3.67 GPA in pre-nursing.
-Oakland will enter the 2019 Tournament as the No. 6 seed. They recorded a 9-14 conference record, winning their last two series against Cleveland State and Green Bay.
-Oakland will take on the Penguins of Youngstown State who enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, tallying a 13-9 conference season.
-Oakland had the second-most consistent bats in the conference ranking runner-up in overall team batting average (.295). Top seed UIC had a .325 average.

Brittney Miller ranks sixth in the conference in batting average (.351),
Kelsie Swanson ranks seventh (.341) and
Jamie Squires ranks tenth (.331)
-YSU's lands one player, Lexi Zappitelli on the All-League Second team. Zappitelli leads the Penguins in batting average (.303), triples (3), total bases (68), and sac bunts (9).
-Miller also ranks fourth in on-base percentage as well as fifth in RBI.
-Swanson ranks first in triples with five and fourth in runs scored.
-The Golden Grizzlies are coming off of a two game loss in Fort Wayne, Ind. as they dropped games to both Purdue Fort Wayne and Ball State.
