OAKLAND CONTINUES LEAGUE PLAY AT IUPUI

IUPUI Game 1 Preview

ROCHESTER, Mich.
– The Golden Grizzlies Softball team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on the Jaguars of IUPUI in a three-game Horizon League series. The teams will face off on Friday, Apr. 12 at 5 p.m. and again on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 1 & 3 p.m.
 
The Jag's currently sit in fourth place in conference play with a 6-4 record while Oakland sits in eighth holding a 3-8 record.
 
Last year the Golden Grizzlies took down IUPUI two games to one at home in Rochester, claiming the series before losing to them in the first round of the conference championships 4-2. Oakland would face the Jag's the next day in the tournament pulling out the victory 8-3 to move on in the bracket.
 
Oakland is coming off of a doubleheader loss to Toledo on Tuesday, Apr. 9 where they lost game one 10-2 and game two 2-0.

Notes
  • Haley Bartholomew became the first Horizon League pitcher to take down the UIC Flames in conference play this season, ending their perfect 7-0 record. Lauryn Debono followed up in game two with a win of her own, thanks to a complete game shutout.
  • After three weeks of conference play, the Golden Grizzlies continue to lead the league in batting average, boasting a .296 average. They also rank third in hits and first in triples.
  • The Oakland offense knows how to take one for the team as they are tied for first in hit-by-pitches with a whopping 24.
  • Individually, Kelsie Swanson and Brittney Miller rank fifth and sixth respectively in the league in average. Swanson carries a .375 average while Miller holds a .374.
  • Not only does Swanson rank in the top-ten in average but she ranks sixth in slugging percentage, seventh in on-base percentage, third in runs scored, fifth in hits, eighth in doubles and first in triples.
  • Pitcher Lauryn Debono has really buckled down in conference play. She holds a 3.71 ERA, leading the team and is holding her opponents to a .242 average while on the mound.
  • Jamie Squires has accounted for four homers this season, the most on the team. Mikayela Marciniak has hit two, and four other Golden Grizzlies have recorded one each.
  • Kelsie Swanson has 11 multi-hit games under her belt, while Brittney Miller has 10, Jessie Munson 9, and Mikayela Marciniak 8.
  • Jamie Squires has a six different multi-RBI games to her name while Marciniak has five.
