
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. - Both Oakland's men and women's track and field squads placed runner-up at the 2018-19 Horizon League Indoor Championships. The men posted a team score of 128 points while the women tallied up 143.5 points. Redshirt-junior
Rachel Levy swept all three of her events as she became the first Oakland female to win the 5000m, 3000m as well as the mile. With her time of 4:55.56 in the mile today, she set a new school record. Her performance earned her the Women's Championship Outstanding Performer, Running.
Zach Stadnika was named the Men's Championship Outstanding Performer, Fielding for his dominant performance of winning the heptathlon for the second year in a row with a score of 4825 points. Stadnika also broke his own school record in the pole vault with a mark of 14 ft., 7.25 in.
Connor Goetz was named the Men's Freshman of the Year, Running as he turned on the jets as he won the men's 3000m heat with a time of 8:26.68 and
Chase VanSickle was named the Men's Freshman of the Year, Fielding after dominating the high jump, recording a mark of 6 ft., 7.5 in.
Also breaking school records in their heat finals were the 400m duo of
Chanel Gardner and
Jimmie Williams. Both athletes smoked their competition as Gardner posted a time of 55.65 while Williams crossed the finish line at 47.31. In addition,
Zach Stadnika broke his own school record in the pole vault with a time of 14 ft., 7.25 in. Stadnika also placed first in the heptathlon with 4825 points.
Alana Morrow found herself atop the podium in the 60m hurdles as she placed first with a time of 8.78 as did both men and women's 4x400 relay teams. The men's team of
Corey Goodloe,
Marcus Nellum,
Malcolm McIntyre and
Jimmie Williams cruised to a first place finish with a time of 3:16.44, helping to secure the men's teams overall second place finish. The women's relay of
Kathleen Pencak,
Hannah Coverdill,
Briana Walker and
Chanel Gardner also claimed first, posting a time of 3:55.62.
Zach Stadnika placed third (6 ft., 6.25 ft.) in the high jump followed by
Alex Hugh-Plott in fourth (6 ft., 5 in.) and
Sam Narusch in sixth (6 ft., 5 in.). Other notable field event performances came from
Brandon Davis who placed runner-up in the triple jump (46 ft., 5.5 in.) and fourth in long jump with a leap of 23 ft., 0.5 in. Stadnika and
Chase Novak came in fifth and sixth respectively in the event.
Sprinter Napoleon Outlaw grabbed some points for Oakland as he placed fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 6.96 while
Junias Holmes and
Marcus Nellum placed seventh and eighth respectively.
Maggie Schneider finished in second place behind her teammate Levy in the 3000m recording a time of 9:57.56.
In addition,
Madison Leigh and
Austin Dawn placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 800m heats. Leigh posted a time of 2:13.82 while Dawn finished with 1:55.39.
