RALEIGH, N.C. / CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Oakland Track and Field team split competition across two meets this weekend, sending distance runners to the Raleigh Relays at NC State while a full squad competed at Cedarville University. Across three days in Raleigh and a strong Saturday showing in Cedarville, the Golden Grizzlies turned in a number of solid performances and event wins.
Raleigh Relays (Mar. 26-28)
Oakland opened the weekend on Thursday at the Raleigh Relays with a pair of distance events. In the men's 3000m steeplechase,
Wesley Hollowell posted a time of 9:21.84, while
Carter McCalister followed in the men's 5000m with a mark of 15:17.17.
Action continued Friday as
Hannah Fisher took on the women's 1500m, finishing 10th in her heat with a time of 4:37.35. On the distance side,
Eliza Bush clocked in at 17:37.65 in the women's 5000m.
Saturday's slate featured a strong showing in the 800m events. Fisher returned to the track in the women's 800m, placing third in her heat with a time of 2:15.95. On the men's side,
Pierce Grzymkowski led the way by winning his heat in 1:51.96, while
Tyler Donovan followed closely with a third-place finish in his heat and a personal-best time of 1:52.19.
Collin McLaughlin also competed in the event, finishing in 1:55.47.
Cedarville University (Mar. 28)
Back in Ohio, Oakland saw a number of standout performances in both field and track events.
In the throws,
Jamie Giese highlighted the women's side with a third-place finish in the hammer throw (49.84m), while also placing ninth in the discus (38.96m).
Elizabeth Rice competed in both the hammer (42.18m) and shot put, finishing 13th in the latter with a throw of 11.21m.
Jada Ewell recorded marks of 35.06m in the hammer and placed eighth in the discus (39.00m), while
Lainee Wagner posted throws of 41.82m (hammer) and 35.26m (discus).
Desteny DeJarnett added a 41.00m mark in the hammer and placed 14th in the shot put (11.15m).
On the men's side,
Blake Foster placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 47.28m and added a mark of 13.98m in the shot put.
Conner Cherney competed across three events, recording throws of 13.72m in the shot put, 37.40m in the javelin, and placing 15th in the discus (43.60m).
Oakland also saw exceptional success in the jumps and hurdles, led by
Kylei Anderson, who turned in a dominant all-around performance. Anderson captured first place in the long jump (5.70m) and the 100m hurdles (14.26), while also finishing second in the high jump (1.63m) and 10th in the shot put (11.73m).
Natalia Bohn added a ninth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (16.49) and competed in the 400m hurdles (1:11.07).
On the men's side of the hurdles,
Austin Graham placed sixth in the 110m hurdles (15.56) and competed in the 400m hurdles (57.54).
Olivia Reynolds rounded out the track events with an 11th-place finish in the women's 400m dash, crossing in 59.49
In their next meet Oakland reeturns home for their annual Golden Grizzlies Invite on Staurday, Apr. 4.
