ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University men's basketball team is set to conclude its six-game road swing on Wednesday, December 18, at Syracuse University. Tip off against the Orange is set for 8 PM on ESPNU.

Oakland and Syracuse meet for the fourth time in the programs' storied histories. The first meeting was on November 21, 2008, at the Carrier Dome. The Orange defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 86-66.

Greg Kampe and Jim Boeheim entered this season as two of the longest-active tenured coaches in all of Division I. Boeheim has led Syracuse since 1976, making him the longest-tenured coach in the nation, while Kampe's 36 seasons at Oakland is good for third on the list, bested only by Boeheim and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski.

Both sides are 1-4 over their last five contests. Last time out, the Golden Grizzlies fell to No. 16/15 Michigan State, 72-49, at Little Caesars Arena. The Orange traveled to Georgetown, falling short to the Hoyas, 89-79.

Syracuse is the third Power-Five program on Oakland's schedule since November. The Golden Grizzlies traveled to No. 7 Maryland (L, 80-50) on November 18, matched up with No. 16/15 Michigan State (L, 72-49) at LCA for College Basketball in the D, and now travel to New York to battle the Orange.

There will be a watch party for Wednesday's game at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Rochester Hills at 1234 Walton Blvd featuring a BOGO boneless special for small and snack sizes.

NOTES
  • Wednesday's matchup marks the final game of a six-game road swing. The Golden Grizzlies haven't played in the O'rena since November 18 against Hartford (W, 60-50). Oakland is 1-4 through the first five games of the stand.
  • Oakland and Syracuse meet for the fourth time in the programs' storied histories. The first meeting was on Nov. 21, 2008, at the Carrier Dome. The Orange defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 86-66.
  • Oakland sits first in the Horizon League in defense, only allowing a league-best 64.3 points per game. The Golden Grizzlies held #16/15 MSU seven points below its season average, allowing just one Spartan to hit double-figures.
  • Tray Maddox Jr. was a highly touted receiver at Novi High School. He held multiple Division I offers, and the 6-foot-5, 188-pound standout once listed Syracuse as the front-runner before choosing to play basketball over football. He committed to play for Greg Kampe at Oakland, admittedly wrestled with the decision for a few weeks, then came to this conclusion after watching a gut-wrenching clip from Jahvid Best's college highlight tape, saying he'll preserve his body more as a basketball player.
  • Freshmen Blake Lampman and Jackie Harris came alive late against Michigan State, knocking down a pair of three's apiece in the final five minutes of play. This is the second outing this season Harris has hit multiple three-pointers. Lampman has hit a three-ball in five-consecutive outings and leads the team with 19 on the year.
  • The 65 total attempts by Oakland is tied for the fourth-highest total by a college basketball team at Little Caesars Arena.
  • Daniel Oladapo is second on the team with 74 rebounds. Of those 74, 33 have come on the offensive glass - which ranks third in the conference.
  • Tray Maddox Jr. ended a Spartan spurt with a three ball with 12:22 remaining in the half. The Golden Grizzlies have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 981-consecutive outings. The last time OU didn't hit a three was Jan. 30, 1988 against Wayne State. The streak is the seventh-longest in the NCAA.
  • Oakland added 10 newcomers to the 2019-20 squad, including three transfers in Kevin Kangu (Vincennes University), Daniel Oladapo (Chipola College) and Rashad Williams (Cleveland State).
