No surprise to Golden Grizzlies fans, former Oakland men's basketball standout, and current Miami Heat guard,
Kendrick Nunn is making the most of his NBA debut.
The Chicago native set a NBA record on Oct. 31, scoring the most points through the first five games than any other undrafted player in NBA history (112), and is the first player with 100-plus points in his first five career NBA games since Kevin Durant who did so in the 2007-08 season. Durant was the second overall draft pick in 2007.
Nunn has started in all five games for the Heat this season, averaging 22.4 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds. The 6-2 guard is also shooting an impressive 52 percent from the floor, and 48 percent from beyond the arc.
The 24 year-old signed with the Golden State Warriors on Sept. 20, 2018. He was later waived before signing with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA G League on Oct. 22, 2018. During his time in the G League, Nunn appeared in 49 games and averaged 19.3 points (.473 FG%, .857 FT%), 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals. He led Santa Cruz in points, field goals made and attempted, three-point field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted and free throw percentage. Nunn went on to earn First Team All-NBA Summer League honors in Las Vegas while playing for the Heat in July.
Nunn signed with the Heat on April 10, 2019.
While at Oakland, Nunn was named the 2017-18 Horizon League Player of the Year and first team selection in addition to earning Lou Henson All-American honors. As a senior Nunn averaged 25.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals.
