MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich - Tyler Sirut and
Gabby Cyriax both had exceptional performances in the weight throw this evening at the Central Michigan Jack Skoog Meet. Sirut broke the men's weight throw school record by tossing a mark of 59 ft., 5 in. which also landed him in first place. Cyriax broke her own school record with a mark of 57 ft., 8 in.
Rachel Levy won a distance event for the third straight meet placing first in the one-mile with a time of 5:03.62 while freshman
Connor Goetz won the men's mile with a time of 4:22.04. Goetz also claimed top spot in the 3000m (8:58.53) followed by
Connor Wuori in second place and
Brad Mallory in third.
The Golden Grizzlies relay teams continued their dominance as the men's 4x400 team of
Corey Goodloe,
Marcus Nellum,
Jimmie Williams and
Junias Holmes came in first with a time of 3:28.03 while the female team of
Chanel Gardner,
Meghan Earles,
Cassidy Newburg and
Kathleen Pencak also claimed the same event with a time of 4:11.28.
Other notable performances came from freshman
Chase VanSickle who placed first in high jump with a mark of 6 ft., 6.75 in.,
Chanel Gardner who won the 400m (58.33) and
Madison Leigh who placed first in the 800m (2:18.60).
Oakland will continue competition next weekend, Jan. 18-19 where the squad will split up, half going to Saginaw Valley State and the others competing at Indiana University.
